CHAPTER 4

In our realm, rogues have quite the reputation. If they don't get a chance, to live freely, they tend to turn on their own. It’s a strange kind of danger lurking in packs, because all they seem to do is kill

We have a bad odor radiating from our bodies. No one can stand the unbearable smell of rotten flesh and rotten eggs. They're really easy to spot that's why they're easily killed. That way they're bestial

But there are good rogues like me we don't kill people we just try to survive which is hard because there are rouges out who still want to kill us despite us not being bad.

But as for me thanks to the powers and dreams I get from only the goddess knows where I can conceal my awful scent but I know that he scented that I am a rogue that's why he kept whispering it to me. What I couldn't understand was why wasn't doing anything about it.

Thanks to some mysterious powers and strange dreams, gifted by my grandma who seems quite amused at my plight. I’ve managed to mask my terrible scent. Still, it doesn’t stop others like Alpha Bane from sniffing me out. I'm pretty sure it's only him around the entire Pack that smells that I'm a rogue. Because as an Alpha he has stronger abilities.

That’s why he kept whispering “rogue” in my ear. What puzzled me is why he wasn’t doing anything about it.

I guess he is trying to inch closer to me, perhaps with that old saying in mind: keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

It's morning already and I have to drop Phoenix at school before going to Alpha Devil's house.

I lock the door and turn to a furious Phoenix. He's still angry that we don't have a car and it's now my fault but I'm not the one who intentionally crashed our car.

“If you had just apologized, you could have gave me a piggyback ride!” he quipped. “Why are you so rebellious?”

I chuckled sarcastically, " and hurt my hard working backbone? Never I'd rather walk" I say to him

"He would have given us the car, we'd have taken it to the mechanic and it would have been fine now. Now look we have to walk to school."

“Actually,” I said, turning him towards the Porsche parked nearby, “isn’t that Alpha Bane?” he asks

“Mhm, right in the flesh,” I replied, grabbing his hand as we approached the car. I opened the back door for Phoenix and made sure he was settled in before climbing into the passenger seat.

“Can you help with his seatbelt?” I asked Bane as he turned to assist Phoenix.

“Beside her little fiasco yesterday, how do you know my sister again?” Phoenix asked, looking mildly confused.

“Uh, well, I guess she’s my… girlfriend?” I nearly choked on my yogurt as those words tumbled from my mouth. When did I become a girlfriend? I thought I was just his maid!

“I see… When did he become your boyfriend?” Phoenix asked, his expression a mix of surprise and curiosity.

Honestly, Phoenix, I’m just as clueless as you are!

“I, um…” I fumbled for words, but they eluded me.

“It’s an old people issue,” the devil interjected. Now, thanks to him, I’ll have to explain this absurd relationship he concocted.

I sometimes wonder if vexing me is his hobby; he seems to excel at it. Ever since we dropped Phoenix off at school, he’d been spouting nonsense. I couldn’t wait to get home and have some peace.

He parked outside what looked like a castle. I blinked in disbelief. “What the hell are we doing here?”

“Welcome to my humble home,” he said, a grin on his face.

“Humble?” I was half-expecting a punchline, but he was quite serious. “You live here?”

“Well, technically, we’re going to live here,” he replied, which made me frown. Was he hit on the head?

“Listen, the way you’re talking is giving me flashbacks to when I was twelve and Phoenix was in diapers. It’s all very confusing. Stop with the mixed signals!”

In a panic, I ran off to God knows where. I found myself standing in the middle of nowhere. Where was I even going?

“Are you lost, drama queen?” His voice jolted me from my thoughts.

I sighed in relief as I realized he was right behind me. Part of me was grateful for his presence, and the other half was fuming. He was calling me his possession after all.

“No, I wasn’t lost! You just have a knack for crowding me, that’s all!”

“A little birdie told me you were scared of cliffs. So, what are you doing here?” My heart raced as I looked around. How did I even get here?

“You’re only scared now?” he teased. I swallowed hard, taking in my surroundings. I must have teleported here, because there’s no way I would come near a cliff willingly. Perhaps my underground gang thought I needed to be warned.

He wrapped his arm around my waist and eased me back. We were teetering right at the cliff’s edge. A step too far, and I’d be tumbling down.

With a sudden rush, I jumped onto him, wrapping my legs around his waist and clinging to him like he was my last lifeline.

He stumbled but kept his balance.

“It’s alright; we’re not close to the edge anymore. You can calm down,” he said, humor lacing his voice.

I looked around and realized he was carrying me. I squirmed and he set me down.

“Sorry for jumping on you,” I stammered, my face flushing. “Cliffs… are just, um, scary.”

“It’s fine! But let’s head back. You might want to avoid running like that, or you’ll find yourself in another cliffy situation!” he chuckled.

I rolled my eyes. I knew I couldn’t run fast unless I counted teleporting as running.

“I checked this area before we settled here; I didn’t know there were cliffs or forests nearby.”

“You what??” he exclaimed, his voice rising. Why the anger, pal? I just wanted to be safe!

“Safety first!” I protested. “I have to know what’s around me.”

“It’s kind of a hidden part of the pack,” he replied, and I blinked, letting silence fill the air as I followed him along.

“I can’t believe you live here,” I said as we neared his mansion again.

He opened the enormous door, and a lady in her fifties greeted us with a warm smile. “Good morning, Mr. Bancroft!”

“Judy, meet…” he faltered, glancing at me. Ah, so my Alpha still didn’t know my name.

“Hey, Judy!”

“Good morning, my angel! Bane, who’s this angel you brought me?”

“She’s my new maid. Show her around, will you? She’ll make my coffee today. I’ll be in my office.” He dashed up the stairs, leaving me with Judy.

Judy was the friendliest person I’d encountered; her motherly warmth was comforting.

This was the third attempt at making coffee for him today. Heaven help me if he rejected this one too! The first was too hot, the second was a milk bath. I just hoped this one was right.

I set the cup on the table. “Is this one okay?”

“Well, it’s cold and bitter, just like your soul, so it must be good,” I muttered to myself before nodding.

“Cold and what?” he perked up, eyebrow raised. Did I say that out loud?

“What? Did I say anything?” I feigned surprise.

“I’m sure you didn’t,” he grinned, and then, with a swift motion, tossed the coffee out the window. My heart sank. All my efforts gone!

I fought the urge to strangle him. He wore a mischievous smirk, clearly delighted by my fury.

“I hate you, Alpha!”

“Well, guess what, rogue? The feeling is mutual!”

I let out a melodramatic scream. Why did he always know the right buttons to push?

“Drama queen!” he called out as I stormed out of his terrible office.

This is going to my life with an Alpha who found joy in tormenting a rogue! I hope I wake up dead.
