It was the thing she felt before anything else. The only thing she was feeling since that stranger threw her against that tree. It was sharp and intense, tearing through her lower body like her bones were being split every five seconds.

It came in waves, and usually left her gasping each time it receded, only to come back stronger than before in the next five seconds.
