Chapter 3 For the Sake of an Unlimited Card

To show her frustration, Evelyn had locked herself in her room for almost two days. She spent the whole day crying and complaining on her bed. Eve didn't even come out to get the food prepared by her servants. Actually, yesterday she still had some chocolate left in her bag. However, today the snack was gone, even though she had eaten it little by little.

“Ugh, I’m so hungry. I feel like I’m going to die,” she muttered, holding her stomach.

She wanted to press the intercom on the wall above her bed, but quickly changed her mind out of pride.

“No. If I give up now, Grandma will definitely laugh at me. I’m sure I can hold on a little longer. I’m sure Grandma will eventually give in and grant all my wishes,” Eve muttered. She smiled slightly and lay back down.

Unfortunately, what Eve thought was wrong. By late afternoon, there was no sign that her grandmother wanted to persuade her. Eve was starving. Sleep no longer kept her calm. She tried many things to stave off her hunger. But nothing worked.

By eight o'clock that night, Eve couldn't take it anymore.

When the servant knocked on her door to bring her food, she opened it immediately. But Eve kept her expression arrogant.

"Good evening, Miss Eve. We've brought you some food," said the servant, trembling.

“What’s this? This isn’t the food I like. Quickly, bring all the food I like. Now!”

“Yes, Miss.”

The servant immediately returned to the kitchen, while Eve sat back on her bed, hugging her stomach and continuing to grimace. Soon, a soft knock was heard.

“Come in!” she called out, somewhat brusquely.

Two young servants entered, pushing a food cart filled with all of Evelyn’s favorite dishes, like creamy truffle pasta, fresh salad with her favorite dressing, a large plate of soft brownies with melted chocolate on top, mushroom cream soup, medium-rare steak, Belgian vanilla ice cream, and of course, a large glass of soda with fresh lemon.

Eve immediately sat on the bed with her hair messy but still beautiful.

“Finally! I thought you all were going to starve me to death by making me wait so long!”

The two waiters just smiled slightly as they arranged the food on the small table near the bed.

But Eve wasn’t satisfied yet. Her eyes suddenly narrowed with a hopeful expression.

“By the way. Have you heard any news from Grandma? I mean... about my credit cards. Has she finally relented and reactivated those damn cards?”

The two servants fell silent.

Exchanging glances with anxious and confused expressions.

Eve sighed. She already knew the answer.

“What?!” Her voice rose two octaves. “Still frozen?! Even after two days of my locking myself in this stupid room?! Seriously. Grandma really doesn’t love me anymore.”

The older waitress tried to explain in a soft voice, “Miss Eve... maybe Madam just wants you to rest first and—”

“SHUT UP! I DON’T WANT TO HEAR YOUR DEFENSES FOR THAT OLD WOMAN! YOU WERE YOUNG ONCE TOO, WEREN’T YOU? HOW CAN YOU TREAT ME LIKE THIS?”

“But, Miss—”

“GET OUT! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOUR FACES AGAIN! GET OUT, ALL OF YOU. NOW!”

Both of them immediately bowed their heads and hurried out. The door closed slowly.

Eve snorted angrily. “Grandma is so cruel! I didn’t ask for much. Just an acknowledgment that I have the right to be happy. Is that wrong?”

Angrily, she grabbed the fork and began eating her food one piece at a time. Just as two bites of brownie entered her mouth, her phone rang. The screen lit up.

The name Antoine with a blue heart symbol was clearly displayed in the center.

Eve’s heart began to race.

“Oh my God, Antoine,” she whispered. Her mood changed 180 degrees instantly.

Quickly, she wiped the remaining chocolate from the corner of her lips, took a deep breath, and answered the call. Her voice was sweet but still awkward, fearing Antoine might hate her for last night’s incident.

“Hello… Antoine?”

His voice sounded soft in Eve’s ears. “Hey, Princess. Are you okay?”

Eve’s eyes welled up. “I’m so sorry about last night. I… I didn’t expect it to be that complicated. I’m really embarrassed, and I don’t want you to think badly of me. Honestly.”

On the other end, Antoine just laughed softly. “It’s okay, it’s okay, don’t mention it anymore. I’ve already forgotten everything. What’s important is… you’re not sad anymore.”

Eve immediately smiled widely, like she’d just received a special gift. “I’m not sad. As long as you’re not angry with me.”

“I could never be angry with you,” Antoine replied softly.

And just like that, her mood brightened completely. She stretched out on the bed, continuing to eat pasta with one hand while holding her phone in the other. They talked for a long time about the birthday party, about how complicated life was under Grace’s rules, about the movie they wanted to watch together.

Eve giggled softly, occasionally playing with her spoon on the pasta plate.

In Evelyn Parker’s chaotic world, Antoine’s voice was the only thing that made her feel happy. Because only he could cheer her up with all his flattery and jokes.

Eve was still lying on the bed, one hand reaching for a soda glass, before she picked up a fork to stab into the brownie, while the other hand held her phone, which was playing Antoine’s voice through the speaker.

“What if we go on vacation to Bora-Bora? You’d look great in a blue bikini, Princess,” Antoine said from the other end, his voice sounding playful yet soothing. Eve burst into laughter.

“Ugh, please! I really need a break from my annoying grandmother’s drama,” Eve replied, closing her eyes, feeling completely relaxed. Antoine just laughed at the other end.

Suddenly, Eve's door opened. Without permission, without a knock, without asking. And there stood the person who instantly ruined Eve's mood in an instant.

"Evelyn," Grace's voice sounded soft but still carried a hint of pressure.

Eve reflexively shifted her sitting position, her expression turning sour.

“Sorry, babe, I’ll hang up first,” Eve muttered quickly into her phone, pressing end call before Antoine could hear her argument with her grandmother.

With a blank expression, she looked at her grandmother. “Did you come here to scold me again for talking to Antoine?”

Grace only smiled faintly, her expression calm and slightly cunning.

“Even if I forbade you, you’d still do it, wouldn’t you?”

Eve remained silent. She didn’t answer. But her gaze clearly said, “Of course.”

Grace walked in slowly. Her hands carried a small, elegant black box. She opened the lid calmly. Inside lay a shiny metallic card in dark silver.

A Platinum Mastercard, similar to the one the stranger had. Eve had never owned such an item before. In fact, she didn’t even know Grace had one either.

Eve’s eyes lit up. “Is that… for me?”

Eve’s hand reflexively reached out to take it, but Grace quickly pulled the box back.

“Not yet,” she said calmly.

Eve pouted. “Grandma’s playing a trick on me, isn’t she?!”

Grace sat beside the bed, looking at her granddaughter seriously but still smiling faintly. “This card will be yours. But only if you agree to three requests from me.”

Eve stared in disbelief. “Three requests? Are you serious? Are you still trying to control me?" Eve feigned anger.

“If you don’t want to, I won’t force you,” Grace replied calmly. Then she stood up.

Eve looked at the card’s gleam once more. Thinking about how much she could shop, eat luxuriously, or go on vacation with Antoine and her friends. Without hesitation, she nodded.

“Fine! Deal! I’ll do it! Anything, as long as I can have the card!” she said quickly.

“Good,” she said. “Then get ready. We’re having dinner out tonight.”

Eve frowned. “Huh? Why eat out? We have a five-star chef in the kitchen.”

Grace stood up, adjusted the collar of her coat, and walked toward the door. “You’ll find out later,” she said casually before leaving and closing the door.

Eve stared at the door that had just closed with suspicion.

“Why does this suddenly feel so off?” she muttered.
