Evelyn cried all night after returning from dinner. She was deeply disappointed by Grace's decision to set her up with the man she hated most in the world. Well, besides the fact that Reece had humiliated her in front of her friends that night, the reality that Reece was the son of Eve's parents' murderer also added to Eve's long list of reasons to hate him.
Now, Eve no longer cared about the various ways Grace tried to win her over. She was too angry. Even the priceless MasterCard Platinum card couldn't soften her heart anymore.
“Cruel grandmother! You’re truly evil.” Those were the only words that came out of Eve’s mouth as she continued to cry.
Slowly, Eve recalled the events of the previous night. Her memory halted when Grace mentioned that Reece was her childhood friend. Eve realized that the hostility between the Shadowpack and Lunarpack hadn’t existed for a long time. In fact, they had once been close friends who supported each other. Then a fierce fight broke out, and Eve didn't know what caused it. Because back then, Eve was too young to understand. Eventually, Eve was suddenly evacuated. Because the castle was under brutal attack. Both of her parents died, and since then, the two packs have always been at odds.
As far as Eve knew, Alpha Henry had also died in the incident. Shortly after, his wife followed suit by committing suicide. For reasons Eve couldn’t understand. The two packs hated each other at the time. So little information about them reached the Shadowpack territory. However, unlike the Shadowpack, whose leadership had returned to Grace, it was reported that the Lunarpack’s leadership had been taken over by Alpha Henry’s younger brother or Reece’s uncle, named Robert.
Eve smiled slightly, recalling all of that.
"For the sake of the Shadowpack, they say? But I know that man also craves power. If he couldn't get it in the Lunarpack, did he think he could control the Shadowpack? Just a dream," Eve muttered.
Suddenly, her attention was drawn to her phone, which was ringing loudly. Eve reached for it lazily, but she perked up immediately when she saw who was calling.
"Hi, Sweetheart. How are you doing?" Antoine asked with concern.
"Antoine. Help me! Grandma wants to marry me off to the man I hate most in the world," Eve said with a trembling voice. "Take me away! I don't want to marry that man."
"Honey. Honey, wait! Don't panic! Please explain what you're talking about. An arranged marriage? You? With whom?"
"That man is a stranger who came that night and acted like a hero," Eve replied angrily.
"What? The man with the unlimited Platinum Mastercard?"
"Yes, that's exactly right."
"Then why didn't you agree to it?"
"What? Are you also hoping I marry another man?" Eve looked shocked by Antoine's response.
"Honey. Honey, listen to me first! I love you very much and want to marry you. But you know how my life is. My family isn't as wealthy as yours or that man's. How will we live if we don't have enough money to survive?"
"I don't care. We can start everything from scratch, right? I'm sure we can do it together. Besides, I know that man only wants to control Shadowpack. So, even if Grandma gives me a Mastercard, I still won’t marry him." Eve said confidently.
"What? You’ll also get that unlimited card?"
"Yeah. If I follow Grandma’s three requests, I’ll get it. I think last night’s dinner invitation was the first request, the second request is this arranged marriage, and the last one must be that I have to engage to that man. Boring," Eve replied lazily.
"Eve, dear. Listen to me! You might be right in your thinking. But living in poverty isn’t as easy as you think. Ehms.... Why don't you just follow all of your grandmother's requests?"
"Are you crazy? Do you really want me to marry that man?"
"No. No, not like that, dear. I also want to marry you, but we need a good plan so we can live happily ever after."
"Do you mean the MasterCard?"
"Exactly. Once you get it, you can cut ties with that man. Besides, you’re only engaged, right? He might not even be your fated mate, dear. So don’t worry. I’m sure this plan will work."
"Are you sure? Won’t you be angry if I’m with that man?"
"Come on, Babe! This is for our future." Eve fell silent for a moment. She seemed to be thinking hard. "How about it? But I won't force you, dear. If you want to suffer first with me, I don't mind. It's just that it won't be as easy as you think now."
"Alright, dear. I'll do anything for our happiness."
"Good. That's why I love you so much, Eve."
"I love you too, Antoine."
"Stay strong, Eve. I’ll wait for you until you succeed."
"Okay." The call ended. Eve exhaled heavily while staring at the phone in her hand. "Alright, Eve. All of this is for your future with Antoine." Eve exhaled heavily again. Then, she pulled the blanket over herself and went to sleep. Before continuing with her big plans with Antoine.
The next morning, Evelyn entered the dining room with a happy face. She greeted Grace and Miriam cheerfully. This naturally confused Grace and Miriam. Because last night, Eve had still looked very angry.
"Eve, are you okay?" Grace asked, confused.
"Yes. Of course," Eve replied, then scooped food onto her plate. Grace exchanged glances with Miriam.
"I thought you were still angry about–"
"The arranged marriage? Alright. I agree," Eve interrupted quickly. While continuing to enjoy her meal.
"You.... Are you sure?" Grace looked doubtful.
"Of course. Didn't you say it was for the pack or whatever? I don't care." Eve chewed her food. Then she continued, "I just hope you don't forget your promise. About the Mastercard."
Grace smiled slightly. Now she understood why Eve had changed her mind in just one night.
"Eve. You still remember the conditions for getting that card, right?"
"Of course. About your three requests. The first one that night, the second one accepting this crazy arranged marriage, and the last one.... I have to get engaged to that man. Right?"
"Yeah. But...."
"Only until I get my fated mate. If it turns out that the Moon Goddess has arranged for me to marry another werewolf, I hope you won’t stand in the way of my destiny." Eve’s confident words left Grace speechless. Of course, she knew who Eve hoped would be her destiny, but she couldn’t let this opportunity slip away.
"Alright. After you find your fated mate, you can decide about this arranged marriage."
"And the card becomes mine?"
"Yeah. Exactly."
Eve smiled widely. She was certain she wouldn't be with Reece for much longer. She was nearly twenty-five now. And when the time came, she would reject Reece and live happily with her fated mate.
