I’m feeling better, and I realize this as soon as I open my eyes in the morning.

Though I feel wet all over as sweat clings to my skin, I no longer feel like the pain from my back is tearing me apart. I try to shift tentatively to see if the wounds will hurt but they don’t, and it’s such a relief.
