Rowen's POV
“I see your leg has become better,” I said to my patient, still staring at his legs. No doubt that he
was not going to be discharged today.
“Yes doctor, thanks for your help. I'm so happy I met a good doctor like you. You helped my legs
regain its shape again, but I have just one question…” he paused, and sighed. “Is there any
hope of being discharged?” He asked, and I nodded.
“Well, as a matter of fact, I am with your discharge papers right here. I just need you to sign…”
I inched closer to him, and handed him the pen, and the document. Once he had signed, I
collected the documents, and exited the room.
The hallway was rather choked up with people. In fact, It was unusual, and when I paused to
see what was going on, I noticed that the nurses were chattering.
“I heard that the results are out. Those that are to be promoted have been posted on the board.
I guess Doctor Rowen would be there. He has been good for a while.”
I listened from behind them, walking past them with a serious look on my face. My goal was to
check that board, I knew I was going to be the lead name pasted there.
I walked towards the notice board. However, as soon as I reached there, my heart shattered into
pieces. I furrowed my brows, and squinted my eyes, thinking I might have missed, but upon
further inspection, I realized my name wasn't there. I gasped, feeling strange. My chest
drummed, and I felt the pressure on me increase.
“No, no, no!” I yelled, and the nurses I had walked past who just arrived jolted in fear. I turned
away from the board, my eyes darkened, and there was a dark gaze in my eyes.
“Awwwn stop it, I'm going to cry…” she sniffled, but didn't expect what I did next.
I moved away from the table, and immediately went down on one knee, pushing open the ring
box I had pulled out from my pocket.
“Will you, Jane Kelly…will you marry me? Make me a complete man, be the bundle of joy in my
dark–”
“Yes!” She covered her mouth, still In shock. “Yes I'll marry you!” She exclaimed, happily, making
me smile, I waited for her to bring forth her hands, and once she did, I tried to slide the ring up
her finger, but as I did, I noticed her once firm hold turned loose, and she gasped, causing me to
snap my head up, only then did I notice she was losing consciousness.
I was quick enough to grab her, and held her in my hands, shaking her gently.
“No, no please…” I begged, but she was unconscious, almost like she was in a sleep.
“Help!! Call 911!” Fear, worry, and pain rush towards me. Could this day get any worse?
Help was on the way, and with the help of the ambulance, I was able to rush her to the hospital.
She was rushed to the ER, and the doctors started carrying out research on her, but still there
was no response.
Each time a nurse came out, I stopped them, trying to find out the situation, but they were too
quiet.
“Shit, shit! Please… please be alive…” I pleaded, and was shocked to see doctors come out
after 3 hours.
“Dr Rowen, sorry for the delay, but we just needed to be sure what was going on. We did a
series of tests, and plus her records… umm, we found out she had a condition that required her
to need blood some years ago right?”
I was stunned by their words, but I nodded to give them the answer they were looking for.
“Well, I'm afraid her condition has shot up again, and this time, she kind of needs urgent
treatment. Else, it's going to be something else, she might lose her life.”
I shook my head. “No doctor, please do all you can, please…” I begged, but he shook his head.
“I'm sorry there's nothing I can do. She needs blood, and her blood group is hard to access at
this point,” he explained, causing me to run my hands through my hair.
“That means I need Alicia again…” I finally recalled the reason I was able to help Jane in the
first place.
I needed to gain access to Alicia again. No matter what happens.
