Kaelan
“Stay with me,” I blurted out the offer.
“What?” She asked.
She was still reeling from the shock of almost getting killed, and so I couldn’t really tell if she was shocked at my offer or angered by it.
I was really hoping that she wouldn’t say no, or worse, make it difficult for me. I wasn’t the kind of men to waste precious time begging a woman, or trying to convince her otherwise, especially one as young as Seraphina.
I did that before, and I never wanted to do it again.
But that didn’t change the fact that more than ever before, I wanted her not just under my roof for safety, but so that I could feel the softness of her skin against mine over and over again.
She had tortured me long enough by not responding to any of my calls or returning them.
“Come and live at my house,” I rephrased.
She looked at me with shock, her eyes almost falling out of their socket.
“Listen, Seraphina, your life right now is at risk. You saw what almost happened to you, and we can’t even stay here longer than necessary, so I suggest you come and live with me so that I can watch over you,” I tried to explain to her.
I was a man with little words.
Since the last betrayal that still stung badly, I had been more reserved and economical with words. I realized that in business and in my personal life, little or no words worked better, and since that, I had been applying that to my daily living. However, Seraphina was making me act otherwise.
A part of me had hoped that she would be submissive and obedient enough to jump into my car and go with me without asking questions…or at least, not immediately.
“Those after you are bad guys, and now that you are linked to me one way or another, they are not going to stop until they get you,” I continued. “You should come and live with me where I am sure of your safety until all this is sorted out,” I added. “It’s the least I can do,” I added.
She seemed to take her time to think about it even though I already explained to her that we didn’t have much time and we shouldn’t even be standing here and talking.
Was she that stubborn?
“Okay,” she eventually said, her lips shaking slightly.
Without wasting time, I signaled to one of my bodyguards, and with just a snap of the finger, he already knew what to do.
He immediately went to my main car and opened the door. Then I gestured for Seraphina to get in, and she did.
The moment I got into the car as well, my driver, along with the other drivers and bodyguards handling the convoy drove off.
“Are you sure he is not dead?” She asked, still looking back as my cars drove off the scene.
I wondered why she was worrying about an enemy. A part of me knew that she would have been scared and worried, which was why I didn’t do more harm to him. I only made him pass out because I didn’t want to scare her or make her feel traumatized.
“No, he is not,” I said.
Eventually, she had to stop looking when she couldn’t see his body on the ground anymore.
“Are we just going to leave him lying there?” She asked with concern.
I almost shook my head at her. So, aside from being stubborn and a sexy young woman, she was also compassionate. Never had I met a woman, or anyone at all, who showed care and compassion for someone who almost killed them.
“Yes,” I answered.
The last thing I wanted to be talking to her about was a hired assassin. Goodness, I wanted to talk to her about anything, and everything so badly. Who the heck cared about a man lying there? Especially one that would have killed her if not for my timely intervention.
“But, he is passed out. How will his family find him?” She asked worriedly, and it made me really fed up.
Not that I was tired of hearing her talk. On the contrary, I think I could listen to her voice all day, I just didn’t want to listen to her talk about an enemy.
I was still very pissed off at the fact that she had been a target because of me, and I knew that I would need to handle it, so I didn’t need anyone talking more about it, worse, with some amount of care.
“I don’t think you should be bothering yourself about him,” I said stiffly.
I didn’t intend to sound like that, but the words just came out, and it made Seraphina to shut down completely. She looked the other way and stayed that way for the rest of the drive. Maybe if I was as young as Thorn, I would have been able to strike up an intriguing conversation that would keep her hooked, but I guess the years of being single and celibate had made me rusty.
Wasn’t that why she had been with Thorn to begin with?
We soon arrived at my mansion and the cars drove in. I noticed Seraphina’s awe, which made me a little goofed up, but I maintained my composure.
“Let’s go inside,” I told her.
Even though I yearned to touch her, I didn’t. I led Seraphina into the living room where some of my domestic employees were already waiting. I turned to the head housekeeper.
“Celine, this is Seraphina, and she will be living here,” I started to say.
“Temporarily,” Seraphina chipped in quickly.
I ignored that; it wasn’t up to her to decide.
“Take her upstairs and ensure that she is comfortable in her room,” I told Celine.
“Yes, Mr. Kaelan,” she answered. Then she looked at Seraphina and said politely. “Welcome home, please come with me.”
I watched her lead Seraphina up the stairs, and itched to touch every since part of her body again, but the thought didn’t linger, as I had other things to handle immediately.
I pulled out my phone now that I was alone in the living room, and the call connected almost immediately.
“Pharaoh, we need to talk,” I stated into the phone.
