Seraphina
The lady referred to as Celine by Kaelan took me to a well furnished bedroom.
The whole of Kaelan Crowe’s house was a beauty to behold. I expected that he would live in a mansion because of his financial status, but nothing prepared me for the exotic taste he had.
His offer had come to me as a shock; not that I had had anything in particular in mind anyway, and when he had said it, I knew that I would say yes.
I almost got killed, and his offer was the only thing that seemed reasonable, especially as I didn’t want to die any time soon.
“Is everything to your liking?” Celine asked.
She was a woman who should be in her early thirties, and she seemed nice.
“Yes, they are,” I said even though I hadn’t gone into the bathroom to check for the toiletries.
Well, judging from what I was seeing, nothing would be out of place.
“Are you sure?” Celine asked me.
“Yes, I am, and thank you,” I told her.
“You are welcome,” she responded. “And if you need anything, you shouldn’t hesitate to ask me,” she added warmly.
“Of course,” I said with a smile.
She turned to leave, but I realized that I wanted to ask her about something, and it was as though she also remembered in that moment that she wanted to ask me something as well. She turned to me and we opened our mouths at the same time.
I smiled again.
“You go first,” I urged her.
I was just smiling and trying to get off the fact that I had almost gotten killed by Kaelan’s enemies. I had questions to ask, and I was still in fear, but I didn’t just display it. While I smiled and responded with politeness, I was shaking deep inside.
“Are you sure?” Celine asked.
“Yes, please,” I responded.
“I don’t mean to pry, Seraphina, but I would like to know your relationship with Mr. Kaelan,” Celine asked, bringing her voice to the lowest that she could bring it.
That wasn’t what I was expecting, but her question struck a realization in me; people would ask.
I hadn’t thought of that. Heck, I hadn’t imagined that I would be right here, in Kaelan’s house, after sleeping with him and avoiding him. Everything had happened in such a hurry that I didn’t even have time to process it, or think about what to say when the questions would begin to come. I could have easily said he was my father-in-law, but then again, that would be if Thorn and I were still together.
“That is for him to answer,” I simply said.
A flash of disappointment appeared in her eyes, but it was quickly gone at the same time.
“Alright,” she said, her voice still being calm.
“Where can I find him?” I asked.
“Who?” Celine asked, as though she was lost in thought.
“Kae…Mr. Kaelan,” I said and corrected myself immediately.
“He is should be in his office,” she answered.
“He has an office here?” I asked, surprised.
“Yes, he does,” she responded.
“Could you point me in that direction?” I asked politely.
“Sure,” she said.
I followed her out of the room and she directed me to Kaelan’s office. As soon as she showed it to me, she walked away, saying that she needed to get back to her duties, and I understood.
I knocked gently and waited.
A few seconds later, the door opened and there was Kaelan, standing right in front of me, and my breath completely seized.
He had unbuttoned three of his shirt buttons, revealing his broad and firm chests, which had some strands of hairs on it. Instantly, my mind went back to the night, and how my hands had felt on his chest while he…
“Seraphina,” Kaelan called, causing me to snap out of my reverie.
Jeez, how could I have allowed my mind to wander towards that territory? I hadn’t forgotten that it was that singular night that put me in this situation, and yet, I still had the audacity to think about it, and worse, allow my cheeks to blush over it.
I cleared my throat to get rid of every distracting thought and stay focused.
“We need to talk,” I said.
He stepped aside for me to enter into his office and I did. The moment I walked in, I felt the warmth of the office.
It was slightly dark, but it was very cozy and warm. It had a large desk in the middle of it where Kaelan probably did his business, and I dared to imagine being turned over and…
Again, I shook my head to get rid of wandering thoughts.
Goodness, what was freaking wrong with me?!
“What about?” Kaelan asked.
“My stuff,” I started.
“What stuff?” Kaelan asked, looking slightly confused.
“My belongings,” I answered. “I was on my way from the supermarket when I got attacked and you came to my rescue, and then you brought me here. I need my clothes, and undies,” I explained.
I noticed how Kaelan’s eyes darkened with lust when I mentioned my undies, and it made me feel a certain type of way…the type that sent pleasure through your body.
Suddenly, his office became too small and yet too cozy for me.
“Don’t worry about them. You will shop for new ones and every other thing you might have need of,” he declared.
His tone was final and firm, which I believed was an indication that the topic wasn’t up for any debate, and so I decided to let it slide.
I agreed with a nod.
“Another question,” I requested.
“Ask away,” Kaelan said.
“Now that you have brought me here…temporarily,” I said, emphasizing on the last word because I didn’t want him to think that I wanted to be in his house. “What do I say when people ask about our relationship?” I asked.
I guessed Kaelan didn’t see it coming too because of the expression on his face.
“Then it’s time to put a name to it,” he stated.
