Everything Wrong

Kaelan

After she asked me that question, nothing else came to mind other than to introduce her as my family relative.

I didn’t even think of that when I gave her the offer of coming to live with me. The only thing I had been concerned about was her safety, but now that it had come up, I could only say that. I would have mentioned that she was Thorn’s fiancée, which wouldn’t even raise any eyebrows, but then again, I wasn’t sure about the situation of things between them, and also, the sound of it didn’t just sit well with me.

Celine came to my office a few moments later.

“You sent for me, sir,” she said.

“Has she had something to eat now?” I asked her.

“Yes, she has,” Celine answered, much to her relief.

“Does she have everything she needs?” I asked. “Is she comfortable?” I asked further.

The instinct to protect Seraphina and provide in abundance for her was overwhelming that I couldn’t help it. It was like a driving force that I had no control over, and I wasn’t even trying to fight it because I knew that it was pointless.

“Yes, she does,” Celine answered, and I was impressed.

“When you left her, what was she doing?” I asked.

These were deep and personal questions, but I couldn’t help but ask. I was so worried and concerned about Seraphina that she was all I thought about, especially since that night. Now that she was living under my roof, it became worse.

I could barely concentrate, and I worried that I might not be able to do anything productive here with Seraphina being present.

“She was trying to get some rest,” Celine answered.

“Make sure she doesn’t lack anything, Celine,” I instructed her firmly. “She must be utterly comfortable for the while that she will be here,” I added.

“Got it, sir,” Celine answered.

I was about to send her away when I heard a bit of rancor outside the door.

“What’s that noise?” I asked Celine.

“I don’t think I know what it is,” she responded.

I was already standing up to go and check when the door burst open and Thorn stormed in, bringing in rage and fury with him. My doorman was also struggling to keep up with him, but it was obvious that Thorn was no match for him.

I wasn’t surprised, because just like me, anyone could hardly be able to hold me down when I got enraged.

“I tried to stop him, sir, but…” my doorman began to explain solemnly, but I held up a hand to stop it.

“It’s fine,” I told him. “He has already forced his way in and there is nothing we can do about it right now,” I added.

Thorn shot me a disrespectful glare, but I ignored him.

“You may leave us,” I said to Celine and the doorman.

They both bowed curtly and walked out.

“You freaking asked your servants to lock me out?!” Thorn fired at me the moment we were left alone.

“They are my employees, Thorn, not servant,” I corrected him for the umpteenth time, but I knew that it was a waste of time because he would still repeat it.

The idea of calling other humans servants just didn’t sit well with me. Being a man who had been through it all and amassed wealth from scratch, I knew better than to make anyone feel inferior around me. Unfortunately, I had failed to instill that in Thorn.

It broke my heart to see him treat my employees like trash, and no matter how hard I had tried to correct him now, it just wasn’t working with Thorn.

“I don’t care about any of that! They are lowlifes for all I care,” he stated firmly.

I nodded and decided to let it slide.

“Why have you broken into my house?” I asked Thorn.

I instructed all my domestic employees not to let Thorn into my home for the meantime when he barged in here and confronted me about Seraphina. Apparently, he had found out about the night we spent together, and up until this very moment, I didn’t have an idea about how he got to know. Left to me, Thorn would never have found out.

Who even goes about saying that he slept with his son’s fiancée and even had the audacity to not only enjoy it, but also want more of it?

“You are a worthless and shameless man!” Thorn lashed out hatefully.

“Watch your tongue when you speak to me, son,” I warned Thorn.

It was this level of disrespect and Thorn’s reckless and extravagant lifestyle that formed me into cutting him off from every financial benefit he was enjoying from me, especially being that I had tried to make him work at my company, but he never showed interest.

Thorn couldn’t even survive one year in business school.

He was a complete menace and a nuisance to me, and I had gotten to a point where I didn’t even know what else to do.

“I will not watch my tongue,” Thorn said stubbornly. “What is the worst you can do?” He asked me daringly.

I looked at Thorn and wondered where I went wrong with him. I had done my best as a father, but it seemed like I never got it right with Thorn.

“And how dare you call me a son, huh?” Thorn asked further.

I had no words. I just wanted Thorn to say what he wanted to say and leave, and I was ready to use my bodyguards on him if he became more disrespectful.

The days of buttering him up were over.

“What kind of a father rapes his son’s fiancée and then abducts her to live with him?” Thorn questioned me.

My eyes widened with bewilderment.

“Rape? Abduction?” I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.

“You heard me right,” Thorn said. Then he broke into an evil smile. “Can you imagine what the world will think of you when they find out about this?” He asked evilly.

“You have gone insane,” I said to him, shocked.

Thorn just kept getting worse.

“You think so? Well then, let’s see what everyone in this city is going to say about you, Mr. high and perfect,” Thorn stated, threateningly.
