Kaelan
It had been one of the hectic days of my life, but through it all, I couldn’t even stop thinking about Seraphina and the fact that she was right there in my house, and the anticipation of seeing her when I got home sent a rush of adrenaline through my body.
I had never felt this way before in my entire life.
I couldn’t even recall the last time I had felt this excited about a woman.
“She is too young for you to be thinking this much about her,” a voice in my head had reminded me.
Even in the midst of working, handling meetings, signing contracts, I just couldn’t shut her out. She stuck to my thoughts like glue, almost to the point of near-frustration.
Twice, in the midst of signing a big contract, I had felt horny for her in my groin.
I wasn’t bothered about her safety because I knew that no one would dare go anywhere close to my house to hurt her. My security was tight, and I had security alarms all over my house. The moment there was any form of close violation, I would get notified, no matter where I was in the world, and the cops would get notified as well.
There could never be any case of breaking in, robbery, or assassination in my house.
This was something I ensured I created when I was building the house, way before I even knew that I would need protection from enemies and competitors. However, I still informed my bodyguards and home security to keep watch over Seraphina.
I would guard and protect her with my blood if I had to.
“I need to leave,” I had told Lazarus, my most senior staff member, when I checked the time and saw that it was evening already.
I remembered that Seraphina was supposed to shop for some news clothes and undies, and I had promised, but I had gotten too occupied to leave the company. I could have easily given her my credit card to do whatever shopping she wanted, but I wanted her under my watch when she wasn’t in my house.
That way, I would be rest assured that she was not going to get hurt.
“Right now?” Lazarus had asked.
He was the most hardworking man in my company. When I started this company from scratch, Lazarus was just a messenger. He was a decade older than I was, but he was also having a hard time making a living for himself, so when he had come to me and pleaded to be given whatever position, I had to give him that of a messenger. The salary wasn’t much because I was only starting out, and I even shouldn’t have given it to him because it was a position that wasn’t necessary at that time, but I had taken pity on him.
Lazarus had impressed me greatly.
From being a messenger with little pay and no compensation, and also no college or university degree, he had worked with determination and relentlessness. Lazarus had learned so much in the past years, and he had also built a wall of trust with me. He also stayed when my company faced its major setback and a lot of staff members resigned.
Lazarus stayed.
He was loyal and hardworking, and he was always ready and willing to learn. Also, he encouraged me greatly during the times when I had almost given up, especially when the major setback came and I thought I was going to lose my company.
So, when the company picked up and I built it up to be the biggest and most successful companies in the city, I had promoted Lazarus to the position of the highest staff member. He became my assistant Executive Officer, and I placed him in charge of major operations in the company.
Also, his salary increased with handsome bonuses and all-expense paid trip twice every year for holiday with his family to any country of his choice, all on the company. That wasn’t a luxury I even gave myself. Anyway, that was because I didn’t have someone I could go on holidays with.
At least, not anymore.
Anyway, it was safe to say that Lazarus was like a brother to me, and he knew literally everything about me.
“Yes, right now,” I answered.
I hadn’t told Lazarus that Seraphina was living with me. He didn’t even know much about her or the fact that she was my son’s fiancée, and I didn’t intend to tell me. Not that I wanted to start keeping secrets from Lazarus, but whatever Seraphina and I had was sacred to me, so much so that telling anyone else just felt like I was defiling it.
Or maybe it was a tiny part of me that was worried about being judged.
“But we still have a few more work to cover up,” Lazarus said. “What’s the rush?” He asked me.
Before I could even answer, he broke into a suggestive grin.
“Another night with one of those strippers?” He asked further.
“No, Lazarus, I just want to go home,” I said, not entertaining Lazarus’s thoughts. “I am sure you can handle the rest,” I added and began to pack up.
“But Pharaoh will be here any moment from now to discuss about the rival who tried to assassinate you,” Lazarus reminded me.
“I will send him a text to leave it for tomorrow,” I said and left.
Nothing would have held me back, not even if the company was crashing to the ground.
I almost instructed my drivers to exceed their speed limit just so that I could get home faster and set eyes on Seraphina.
It was wrong on all levels, but I couldn’t control myself, and this was one of the very important reasons why I couldn’t tell anyone about it, even though I wasn’t even the talkative type.
I tried not to run into the living room when I arrived home, but what I saw on Seraphina made me stunned and enraged at the same time.
There she stood, in that dress, and the gates of anger and venom were opened upon me.
