Seraphina
Knowing that Kaelan had left for work made me feel relieved in ways that I couldn’t explain, so much so that I was even able to come downstairs to meet Celine.
When I got to that part of the stairs where I had tripped and fell, shivers ran down my spine, and I shivered.
“Trauma, right?” Celine asked, coming out of the kitchen and cleaning her wet hangs with a rag.
I didn’t even know that she saw me, and more so, I didn’t even know that my fear was that visible.
I simply nodded and walked away from there. It did something to my chest that I didn’t like, and I wanted to get far away from it.
“Sorry about that,” Celine said. “I believe you will feel better with time,” she said.
“I am only going to feel better when I leave here,” I said. And get far away from him, but I didn’t say that out loud.
“Hmm,” Celine sighed deeply. “But, sorry to pry, Seraphina, if Mr. Kaelan was a family relative, shouldn’t you know this about him by now?” Celine asked respectfully and carefully.
I almost laughed at myself; I didn’t even know that secret that she wouldn’t tell me about, but instead of laughing at myself, I became somewhat uncomfortable. This was Kaelan’s lie that I had had to go along with; not that something else would have been better, but because the lie didn’t come from me, I knew that I was going to find it difficult to act accordingly.
I wasn’t even the kind of person that told lies, so this would be very hard, but then again, it was a good thing that I would be out of here really soon, and I wouldn’t have to live a lie.
“He is a distant family relative, that’s why,” I cleared my throat and said.
“How then did you and him meet up that he brought you here?” Celine asked.
I understood that she was just being naturally curious; I would be if I was in her shoes, but then again, she was going towards territory that would make me say things that would implicate Kaelan and I.
“Did you give the note to him?” I asked, steering the conversation away from Kaelan and I.
Celine smiled warmly.
“I am prying, I know, and I am sorry,” Celine apologized, making me feel bad.
She had been nothing but nice and accommodating, and the least I could do was reciprocate, but it just wasn’t with something like this.
“Did you give him?” I asked again.
“Yes, I did,” Celine answered.
I sighed in relief, but something else popped up in my head.
“You didn’t read it, did you?” I asked her.
Celine smiled warmly again. The smile came easily for her.
“Of course not,” she answered.
“I am sorry I am asking you all these, Celine,” I apologized, feeling really bad.
I had always been considered as a very nice girl who wanted everyone around her to be happy, and it was true. I didn’t want anyone to feel unhappy. It just hurt me that I couldn’t be very free to Celine and answer all her questions.
“It’s okay, Seraphina,” Celine said with a friendly tone. “I shouldn’t even be asking those questions in the first place. Mr. Kaelan will be cross with me if he finds out,” she added.
“But he won’t,” I assured her.
At least, if that was the only thing I could do for her, it would mean the world to me.
“Do you need anything in particular?” Celine asked me with care and concern.
“Uh, no, I was just tired and bored in that room and I wanted to come down and watch TV, maybe,” I said.
“Suit yourself then,” Celine said.
There wasn’t anything else I could do in this house, and I didn’t want to lose my mind being inside that room all day. The best thing to do would be to make use of the opportunity before Kaelan returned, and when he did, I would have to gather the courage to demand to leave.
Barely five minutes after I sat down to watch something on the television, Thorn walked in, much to my shock.
He was carrying a bouquet of flowers, for the very first time.
“Thorn,” I said, standing up almost immediately. I glanced towards the kitchen, and was a little relieved that Celine wasn’t watching. “What are you doing here?” I asked him hastily.
“To see you, love,” Thorn answered sweetly.
I became uncomfortable and restless as I glanced around again.
Everyone in this house would know that Thorn was Kaelan Crowe’s son, and since that was the case, it made us one big family.
Wouldn’t it be odd and suspicious that Thorn was coming to see me with love flowers and using endearments on me?
“We can’t talk here,” I stated quickly, since I couldn’t ask him to leave his father’s house.
Thorn understood quickly, which was also a surprise.
“My dad’s library downstairs is always open,” Thorn said. “Should we go there and talk?” Thorn asked like a perfect gentleman.
“Yeah, sure,” I answered without delay.
It was his father’s house, so I let him lead me to the library. The circumstances surrounding our being there didn’t even make me appreciate the beauty of the library.
Thorn closed the door gently.
“I brought this for you,” Thorn said, giving me the flowers.
“What is this about, Thorn?” I asked, subconsciously taking the flowers from him. “You never got me flowers when we were dating,” I stated the obvious.
Thorn came very close to me.
“Because I want to show you that I am a better man now, Seraphina, and I am willing to spend the rest of my life proving it to you,” Thorn said.
His tone was deep and he sounded very genuine. The emotion in Thorn’s eyes was intense as well.
“Thorn, things are complicated already…” I started to say, but I never got to finish the statement.
The door burst open and Kaelan walked in, his eyes filled with rage the moment his eyes landed on Thorn and me.
