Kaelan denying me didn’t hurt as much as hearing the things he said to Lazarus in his office.

Somehow, they left the door a little open, so Kaelan’s words floated to my ears, and they broke my heart. I wasn’t expecting him to claim me, but he was just being very harsh, as though there was never anything between us.
