Juan had come up to my room moments after Diego left, his face a mixture of concern and weariness.

“He's gone,” he said, his voice calm. He looked intensely at me, trying to figure out my expression.

He knew it was tearing me apart, this isolation from Diego, even after six months, but he didn't know what to say to me.
