Chapter 3

The wailings and cries behind Alpha Theron did not move him one bit as he and his men approached Zeus, leader of the central city that belonged to the vampires.

Zeus and his people suffered a fatal attack by the werewolves led by Theron when they had least expected it. There was no underlying issue that warranted that, except that Theron wanted the sacred spell.

Zeus did everything to protect his people and the spell, but in the ruins of the land, despite their strong defence, Theron had conquered them. It was obvious he had gotten the spells from the other clans which made him unstoppable.

Zeus watched as the city burned down and knew there was no hope for them.

"Give it up Zeus," Theron said, looking down at him. "There's no point fighting anymore. Give it up and I will spare your life."

"That will be over my dead body," Zeus coughed out blood and Theron only scoffed lightly.

"Very well then," he said with no emotion on his face. "As you wish."

He transformed halfway through his hands and drove his long claws deep into Zeus' chest, looking him dead in the eyes as he grunted and struggled in pain till his body went limp.

Theron searched his body for the spell and found it in a small bottle. The substance was thick and shiny. He broke the bottle with his hands and gulped down the crystal contents.

His entire body convulsed from the reaction, and after a while, he calmed down. It was all done. He had accomplished his mission. Now all supernatural Kingdoms will bow to him because he is the strongest.

He now had what it took to wear that ancestral ring. That was all he needed to do.

When he turned round to leave he sensed an arrow being thrown at him and he caught it swiftly with his fingers.

"Arghhhhh!" Colin cried, rushing at him but before he could get close, Theron kicked him in the air with his powers.

"You freaking devil!" Colin swore at him as he fell heavily to the ground near his brother's body. "You lied to me. You told me you were not going to harm my family but you did."

Colin cried bitterly.

"Brother, I am sorry," he sobbed against Zeus' body. Theron had deceived and tricked him into believing he would never hurt anyone. All he wanted was the spell, he had assured him and promised to give him a powerful position after it all. He had been a fool to believe him.

But Theron paid little or no attention to him. His mission accomplished, he walked away, leaving Colin to his loss.

Theron headed straight to the cave of shadows with his men where the ring was securely kept and guarded by the shadow spirits.

It was hanging in the air just like it had been for thousands of years, and only the one who is a hybrid gets to have the ring.

Theron walked straight to it. The time was now. He had sacrificed everything for this. But when he stretched out his hand to get it, it repulsed him, almost throwing him off balance.

He frowned deeply, and the Shadow spirit appeared in the air, its laughter echoing all over the cave.

"Why are you not letting me have it," Theron asked with a calm rage. "You told me only the one who has the spells and becomes a hybrid can take it, and I achieved that. Vampires, wolves and witches. I have them all. So what is happening?"

"Indeed, only the one who's hybrid and has the spells can take it," The faceless shadow said. "You have passed all these tests except one."

"What test is that?" Theron was getting impatient. He had waited all this while for this.

"You must get your mate," The shadow told him. "She's the only one who has the power to unlock this ring for you."

Theron scoffed.

"There's no mate anywhere," he retorted. "I have not come across such a woman in all my life. Tell me, who is this mate? Who is she?"

The Shadow laughed long and loud, and Theron could only wait, even though his patience had thinned out of his body.

"You must find her," the shadow finally said. "Unless you do so, all your travails will end in vain. Find her."

What bullshit! Theron would have had the head of this goddamn shadow, spirit or not. He did not come this far for this.

Worse? The Shadow kept laughing instead of giving him answers and directions. What was funny? Does he look like a clown?

He will have to find that lady no matter what. She was the only one holding him back now.

"What are you going to do now?" Nyssa had walked up behind him and asked. He turned to look at her.

"I need to find her," he said to her. "But I don't have that time to look anywhere. I am going to use a sorcerer."

"That is against our tradition," she reminded him calmly. "Besides, you have wiped out their villages. There are barely any still alive."

"I know there must be survivors," Theron said confidently and true to his words, they were able to find one old one who was sure his time alive was up when they found him.

"Pray tell me," Theron coaxed in a gentle tone. "I need to find my mate. Can you tell me anything about her?"

The old sorcerer was afraid and did not want to speak, for he knew how terribly Theron had dealt with his people.

"I will do you no harm," Theron promised him. "This Information is very important to me. If you tell me, I will protect you and keep you in my place forever. You'll be my personal sorcerer."

Perhaps convinced by Theron's words or left with no choice, the sorcerer made some incantations.

"She's not here," he finally told him in his old crooked voice. "Your mate is a human."

Theron did not react, but his eyes darkened.

"Thank you," he said slowly. "But I am afraid I don't like your words."

And with that, he threw a sword over the old man's head, and it came rolling off.

"Go find that human," he ordered. "And bring her to me. Alive."
