Chapter 4
The loud bang on the table made Mira jump up. She was not in a fire, nor was she dead. She was in the restaurant, back when she had fallen asleep on the table.
She blinked her eyes several times, feeling very confused. Just a moment ago, she had been thrown into a very hot fire, and now she's here?
It must have been a very bad dream, she thought to herself. But while her employer was angrily lamenting about the burnt food, Mira could not help but think about the incident that had happened earlier.
She badly wanted to believe it was just a dream, but she knew it was too real to be a dream. She felt like she had lived through this before.
What was more? A voice had spoken softly into her ears before she drifted out of what she wanted to believe was a dream.
"I am going to give you another chance," the feminine voice said. "I have heard your cry. I am going to take you back in time. You have the chance to make it right this time."
Was that also part of the dream? Mira tried to plead with Mrs. Casey but got fired just like it happened earlier.
Now Mira wondered if she was having a feeling of déjà vu. She walked out of the glassy restaurant and decided to hang around till it was her usual time for closing.
While she sat on the pavement waiting, she kept having memories of what might have been her last life, yet she could not understand what exactly was happening.
Werewolves? Alpha? She's just a human and she never believed in things like that. She does not read books or watch movies about things like that, so it couldn't have possibly been the reason it crept into her dream, could it?
Soon, it was time to return home and when she got to the door of the house, not only did she hear her foster parents arguing inside with the same words they had used the other time, but that strange wind she had felt hit her again.
Suddenly, the pain she had felt through that fire crawled back up her skin, the look on Nyssa's eyes, the betrayal and the shame.
She could remember them all vividly now as they played out in her head like a movie. Mira's heart began to beat wildly in her chest.
If her calculations were right, Nyssa would be inside her room, waiting for her to come in and give her the information about her being the chosen one to marry the Alpha, promising her a better life.
Oh, the deceit...
She had fallen for it because she thought there was no point staying back here where she had never been happy.
All her foster parents cared about was using her to live their lives. No one cared about her and she gave in to following that stranger without thinking about the consequences.
Now there were only two options left for her. Go in there and face Nyssa or never. If her suspicions were right, and she had been reborn, which was bizarre, she could not afford to go with Nyssa again.
But what will she tell her if she ends up meeting her? Will Nyssa take no for an answer? Mira doubted it.
She still could not tell why they had chosen to bring her to their land and humiliate her like that. She could not understand what she had done to deserve that death.
She winced painfully, recalling how Theron had grinded up against her and she took everything, laying down her body and heart to him on the sacrificial mile.
Only for him to have her body and her life thereafter. The more the memories came flooding in, the more everything became realistic and she was pushed to believe all those events actually happened and were not dreams.
Her hand holding the door knob loosely, hearing her parents argue inside the house and not really listening to them, Mira could clearly hear the voice that told her she had been given a chance to live again.
* * *
Mira sighed deeply. It was her first day at work in this new city, and she did not know what massaged her confidence so much to think she could get a job in this company.
At the end of the day, she thanked her stars she got a cleaning job. At least, it was better than nothing and the pay was not so bad.
She could manage to live with this. Even though she had been a bright student, she could not go through with college because her parents could not afford it. She had to quit school and assist with the finances which she carried heavily.
She had left, without looking back. She was never going to return ever again. At least, this city is pretty much far from them and neither her parents, nor Nyssa, nor any werewolf can trace her here...or so she hoped.
She wanted no problems. All she needed was to be left alone to live a normal life like a normal girl. But it seemed the universe had other plans for her.
Just on her first day at work, Mira felt something strange. It was like the wind she had felt on the day she had met with Nyssa, twice before and after reborn, but it was even more like the one she felt when she first met with...him.
Alpha Theron!
There was...there was no way he's here anywhere, is there? Or has he found her so soon? Mira felt sick to the stomach as she remembered how he mercilessly ordered that she be thrown into that fire and her bead began to spin.
Did she really think she could run away? They were supernatural beings and had powers. They could fish her anywhere if they wanted to. This was it. She's going to die again and there's no one to protect her.
