I adjusted the strap of my bag and shook my head. “No. I said no.”

He sighed softly, like he wasn’t used to people saying that to him. “You’re stubborn, you know that?”

“Yeah, I’ve heard,” I said, starting to walk again.

He didn’t leave. The sound of his motorcycle followed beside me as he rolled it slowly forward, matching my pace.
