I open my eyes slowly, my head heavy, the entire world around me hazy and unfocused. A damp towel rests on my forehead, cool and soothing against my skin.

My whole body aches deeply, the sharp memory of Vera’s sword slicing through my stomach still painfully fresh in my mind. The throbbing pain lingers intensely as if the cold blade is still deeply embedded there.
