Chapter 10

KATIE'S POV:

I was so immensely engulfed in my emotions that I didn't hear footsteps coming closer to me.

I turned back in shock at the unfamiliar voice that spoke behind me to see a beautiful-looking girl.

She looks to be almost the same age as me. Her blond hair complemented perfectly with her pale skin, her eyes were the color of the deep ocean, and her smile was beautiful.

I took several steps backwards, closer to the cliff in shock for I didn't expect anyone to be here.

"Don't be afraid, dear. I don't bite" Her voice was glittery and rough, compared to her smooth and serene outward appearance and nature.

"H-Hello," I said, my stammering only got worse the more nervous I became. "Who are you?"

The girl excitedly joined me in overlooking the pack, her eyes trailing over every house. "This is beautiful. I'm shocked I've never seen the pack from up here. I'm Leila, delta's daughter"

Realization hit me like a whirlwind. Yes, I can remember now. When I was alone with Jace, he explained to me there were many ranks in the werewolf world. Alphas and Lunas are the highest rank and are considered royalty here, as the beta, delta, and gamma. They were the highest-ranking officials in the Council of Elders.

But there were also Omegas and were-humans. The were-humans were the ones who were born by werewolf parent but never transformed into their wolf or activated their powers.

And this girl standing before me is the daughter of the third highest-ranking official.

"Nice to meet you, Leila" My stammering disappeared as I started to get comfortable around her presence. "I'm…….."

She didn't let me finish. "I know who you are. Everyone has been talking about you since you arrived."

"Everyone?" I asked, bewildered.

"Of course yes. Why wouldn't they? You're the mate to our Alpha and now, the future Luna, you ought to raise our curiosity" She leaned in towards me:

"And especially when you're mated to the twin Alphas. They're so hot, especially Alpha Caden, he is every girl's dream"

I zoned out of her words, letting her role at my mates. I was beginning to slowly understand this new world I was in. It was great but something was missing.

The was an empty feeling in my heart that I couldn't explain but I knew what it was. It was guilt.

Guilt that I didn't save my parents in time. But I wouldn't let that cloud my judgment. I will find out who killed my parents but first, I have to have leads.

"-Katie, Katie. Are you alright?" I came back to reality and saw Leila looking at me with worry. "You were not answering for the longest time, are you okay?"

I smiled, trying to make it as real as possible. "Yes, I'm fine. Just a little hangover"

Leila nodded and we both sat down, discussing while staring at the huge pack lands.

It was nice getting to know someone. She told me all about herself and I found myself remembering Eloise.

Leila was just like Eloise, their character was similar and they both collectively shared a weird voice. The more I spoke to Leila, the more I remembered my best friend.

"I want us to be friends" Leila proposed, her eyes glinting. "A lady needs another to survive in this pack. I can help introduce you to everything and our way of life here"

I stared at her, tears brimming in my eyes at her words. She would do that for me.

I felt alone ever since I came to the pack even though Jace and Caden tried to keep me company, but it wasn't enough.

Jace was always busy with Alpha duties and Caden usually disappears for a while and comes at his leisure time. I wanted to ask where he usually goes but paused instead. I didn't want to sound like a whiny person.

But I suspected he was going to his pack. The rogue pack Jace told me about.

The more I thought of them, it brought a smile to my face. Despite the unusual situation we met, it was still magical.

"Alright, let's do this," I told Leila, smiling brightly.

"Something told me you were here. I just have to come see it for myself" A voice said behind us and I turned to look at the new figure that joined us.

"Oh, is that our Alpha's mate? It's nice to finally meet the girl I've heard so many rumors about!" The girl smiled as she scanned me from head to toe with a scrutinized gaze.

"I can't say it's ever nice to meet you, Chloe" Leila growled, stepping forward. "What are you doing here?"

The girl, Chloe, narrowed her eyes. "I came here to find you. I was bored and looking for something interesting to play with."

"Thank the goddess I found two instead," Chloe said, her short pixie cut bouncing on her head as she spoke.

The girl stepped forward and I could see that she was heavily muscled even for a girl and covered in scars. In what I could only believe was achieved due to exposure to numerous dangerous fights.

"Welcome," Chloe said, her voice not too friendly. "You're still new here," she said with a crossed arm. She looked at Leila "I see you've gotten quite acquitted with Leila". She smirked.

Leila grimaced, staring daggers at the girl. "Why don't you mind your business, Chloe, we came here to get some fresh air and not look for troubles" Leila turned towards me, "Let's get out of here, Katie. She's not worth it". She dragged me out of the room.

"Just watch your back Katie, for I won't be gentle with you," Chloe threatened with a huge smirk smacked on her face.

I shuddered from what her words could have meant. I was being seen as weak again and Chloe was the exact person who looked to prey on those considered weak.

Leila grumbled in her breath, mumbling unknown and incoherent words. "Just do well to stay away from Chloe, she is a troublemaker and you don't want to be on her bad side. Okay?" She finally said out loud while I nodded.

I looked back at Chloe. Her eyes still trained on me as we walked away and back to the pack.

Chloe waved at me, picking an axe out of nowhere and twisting it skillfully. Chloe finally blew me a kiss before I was dragged through a swift turn by Leila.

We arrived at the pack almost immediately but I was tired from the journey. It seems like a small distance when viewing it but once you started the journey, it was like hell.

I stopped to catch my breath with Leila laughing at me for being so tired of walking from such a short distance.

I was a little livid. Seeing the fact that Leila didn't break a sweat at all and I was soaked and drenched in my swea

"Oh my Goddess, it's the Alpha" Leila suddenly spoke, making me turn to see Jace standing there.

His hands were in his pocket as he stared at me.

"Katie, I need to show you something immediately" he softly dragged my hands and I looked back at Leila who began following us.

I was bothered about what would make him so worried and wanted to find out.

Jace took me to a large room with numerous seats. I wanted to know what place this is but my focus wasn't on that.

My eyes were trained on the large screen in front of me. A reporter was speaking but I couldn't hear what he was saying.

It was my picture that I was looking at, plastered all over the broadcast. The heading made my legs grow weak.

My eyes fazed in and out and I heard the last word of the reporter.

"Female Cop, Katie Broman, found to have killed her parents and murdered 20 different criminals and even her fellow colleague”.
