“What about this one?”
Sonia barely spared the gown Ashley was holding close to her body a glance before she looked away. Without a word, Ashley knew that it meant Sonia hated it. She dropped it back on the pile the shop attendant was holding on her outstretched arms just as Brittany came to a stop beside them.
“I have the best news!”
She swallowed and glanced at Ashley who shrugged when Sonia still didn’t say anything.
“I said I have the best news”
Her tone was reasonably lower when she spoke as she waited for Sonia to acknowledge her or at least ask what news she was talking about. When there was still no response from the girl who kept perusing the catalog that she had been given on her way in while sipping on a glass of champagne with her legs crossed, she rolled her lips in her mouth and kept quiet.
It was then that Sonia finally raised her head from the magazine that was so obviously important to her and settled her gaze on the two girls who were hungry for her attention.
“Are you going to say what it is or would you keep standing there looking like an idiot?”
With a deep blush of embarrassment at being spoken to in such a manner, she cleared her throat and looked at Ashley for help but there was none forthcoming.
“Well?”
Sonia prompted with a raised eyebrow.
“It’s just that Giorgio Armani and Louis Vuitton are having a sale upstairs”
“What?”
Sonia rose to her feet sharply, the magazine falling to the ground.
“Yes, and it’s an exclusive event based solely on invitations”
With every word Brittany spoke, Sonia got angrier.
“And I wasn’t invited?”
Before any of them could give her an answer, she swiped her purse from the chair she was sat in earlier and started moving towards the door. Ashley and Brittany drained their own glasses of champagne and hurried to catch up with her. Even in her heels, she was walking so fast that they nearly had to run to catch up with her.
In the elevator, Sonia was seething, wondering how and why it was possible that two of her best designers were going to be having an exclusive launch without her present. Didn’t they know who she was? She was the only heiress of the Don Villa del Ella for crying out loud!
“Those nitwits”
She could barely wait for the elevator doors to open. That was how annoyed and insulted she felt at not being invited to the launch. Immediately it opened, she stormed out, Ashley and Brittany in her wake rushing to catch up.
At the door, there were bouncers with their hands folded and a heavy duty door behind them. They wore frowns on their face and if it were any other person, they would have been intimidated by their persona enough to go back. However, Sonia wasn’t just anybody. She was Sonia del Ella, the heiress of the Don Villa del Ella so she marched up to them and raised her hand in a shooing motion for them to excuse her.
“Who are you?”
The look she sent him was one that could have him pulverised if she had any extraordinary or special powers.
“She is Sonia del Ella of the del Ella family”
Ashley supplied, pride in her voice as she chirped. The bouncer looked over the list that he was holding and back at her.
“Your name isn’t here so you cannot go in”
“You don’t know who she is. She could have you sacked in one call. It’s best you let her in right now”
Brittany added from her position behind Sonia who was now glaring at the bouncer who had donned himself spokesperson for the rest of them.
Just as he was about to respond to Brittany, there was a crackle in the wire he was wearing.
“Yes, I understand”
He replied whoever was on the other side of the line.
“My apologies, Miss del Ella. Please, go in”
He stepped away from the door and signalled for the other bouncers to do so. They did as he told them to and one opened the door for her. With her head held high, she made her way past the doors but not before stopping before the bouncer who refused her entry earlier.
“You’re lucky I’m in a good mood else you would have lost your job and perhaps your freedom in the process as well”
Sweeping past him with the air of arrogance only rich people possessed, she walked into a room full of influential men and women of which social media influencers in the 1% of society were included.
The rooftop was tastefully decorated to match the tastes of the people gathered there. It was obvious that a truckload of money was being spent to gather even more money from attendees.
“Here”
After a while of perusing and playing nice with other people in the event as they were used to in the circles they ran, Sonia stretched her card towards the salesperson for her to run it through for the items she was planning on purchasing for herself and her friends.
“It was declined, miss”
Not realising that she was the one being spoken to, Sonia kept updating her social media profiles with her recent escapades. It wasn’t until Ashley tapped her on the shoulder and pointed towards the salesperson who was now standing there awkwardly that she turned.
“What?”
The salesperson repeated herself and Sonia rolled her eyes.
“It seems you don’t know your job. Try it again, idiot”
Watching the girl carefully to be sure that she was doing as she was supposed to, she kept muttering about how incompetent poor people were.
“It was declined again”
Sonia raised her hand to slap her bit before that could happen, someone else stepped in front of the young girl.
“Excuse me, Miss. My manager has been trying the card for a while with the same machine that everyone has used to pay. Our machine isn’t faulty so it seems that there’s simply no money in your account”
“That’s impossible!”
Instead of replying, the new comer simply smiled and nodded.
“Here’s your card, ma’am”
Sonia snatched her card from his hand and stormed out.
