When two paths meets

Sofia walked out of her room, her mind on confronting her father so he could explain to her what he meant by the comment he made. What was so bad about her going to nursing school on a scholarship that warranted him saying that he was first going to die before he allowed her go and if she wanted to go behind his back, she should be prepared to be disowned by him?

When she got out however, she soon realised that he was nowhere to be seen which probably meant that he was out of the house and had left in anger which was so unlike her father. She went back to her room where her mother was still in the same position she left her in.

“I’m going out, mama”

Without even bothering to have her bath, she grabbed a few clothing items and went to the corner of the room to change into them.

“I’m going to get some fertiliser and other things we need from the supermarket in town”

She wanted to get out of the house as fast as possible because she knew that staying in was only going to make her think and think unnecessarily.

“How would you get there?”

Her hand on the door handle, she turned to face her mother and tapped the cross body purse that she slung over her shoulder.

“I have some money with me”

She knew her mother was going to worry about her spending her little money so she blew her a kiss and hurried out of the house before she convinced her to stay back.

She walked down the road to the bus station, her mind subconsciously replaying the conversation from earlier to see if there were any red flags which her father may have spotted but she kept coming up short. There was nothing she could think of that the rich would benefit off them except bragging rights and that never hurt anyone.

“Oh, snap”

So involved was she in her thoughts that she nearly forgot to pull on the rope to inform the driver that she was stopping by the supermarket.

“I’m sorry, thank you”

She called behind her when the driver had to stop abruptly to drop her off some metres away from the supermarket. As he sped off without any form of acknowledgement, she blushed and made her way into the mall, heading straight to the botany section.

After picking out all the things she needed and paying for them with her card as she surprisingly didn’t have any money with her except a few coins, she stepped out of the mall, small bags of fertiliser as well as some feed for the animals in her shopping bags.

“Where’s my bus card?”

Wondering where she could have dropped the card that was going to take her back to the bus station close to her home, she wasn’t looking where she was going and ended up bumping into someone which made her shopping bags fall to the ground and it’s contents fall out.

“Oh, I’m sorry”

She didn’t look at who she bumped into, instead bending down to gather her things. It wasn’t until she felt a hand grab her hair and pull her up harshly that she finally set her eyes on the person she bumped into.

“Hey!”

Sofias hand reached up to her hair where the strange female still had her hand.

“Let go of me”

She tried to bat the girl’s hand away but it was of no use. The girl was nonplussed by her efforts to relinquish her hold and instead, used her other hand to remove the cigarette that she had been smoking, threw it to the ground and used her heel on the stub.

“You bumped into me”

Blowing the last rings of smoke in Sofia’s face, Sonia kept looking at her waiting for something that Sofia didn’t know what.

“And I apologised”

Like Sonia was only just remembering what she was doing, she took her hand off Sofias hair immediately and shook it out.

“Sanitizer”

She barked at the man who was dressed in all black and standing beside her. He opened the door of the big, black, intimidating car and brought what she demanded for out. Back at where she was, he pumped some into her hand.

“Who knows what diseases I’ve contracted simply from breathing the same air as this… this…”

She trailed off as she looked her up and down with disgust on her face like Sofia was walking around town with a refuse dump on her head.

“Do you not have any respect for people?”

Sofia was forced to ask when Sonia kept acting like she was the scum at the bottom of her shoe. At her words, Sonia looked her over and scoffed before looking away.

“You’re lucky I’m not pressing charges for assault, pig”

Sofias mouth dropped open. Charges for assault? It was the first time she was meeting the girl and from physical appearance, taking away all the designer clothes, jewelry, bag and makeup that she was wearing with her hair that looked way too perfect to belong to a humans head, she seemed to be her age mate so she didn’t understand the attitude.

Sonia who had come to the mall parking lot after discharging her friends inorder to cool down by smoking before going home to confront her father, walked to where Sofia’s goods were and with her stiletto heel, tore the flimsy bags which made the fertilisers pour out onto the ground.

“Hey! What are you doing?”

Sofia tried to stop her but the bodyguard from earlier held her back. When the contents were on the ground, she stepped on them as well.

“That should teach you to not cross my path again, you poor and smelly rat”

With a smile on her face and in a better mood than earlier, Sonia marched to her car which was opened by the bodyguard who promptly let Sofia be. Seated comfortably in the back seat, she started updating her social media yet again, uncaring that Sofia was now on the floor with tears in her eyes as she looked at the products that she had spent a lot of her hard earned money on only to be destroyed by someone she didn’t even know her first name.
