Pain.

That was the first thing I felt as consciousness slowly crept back into my body. A dull, throbbing pain that seemed to radiate from every nerve ending.

My eyelids felt heavy, like they were weighted down with stones. I tried to open them, but the effort alone was exhausting.

Voices. I could hear voices around me, muffled and distant, like I was underwater.
