Lucas's POV

My boots crunch against the gravel path as I make another circuit around the pack territory. The afternoon sun beats down, but I barely feel the heat radiating off my shoulders. My mind churns with the same endless loop of worry that's been eating at me for days.

'Sterling's still out there. That bastard could be planning anything.'

I pause near the training grounds, watching a group of refugees from Phantom Veil practice combat forms ...
