Allison's POV

Unsure whether to believe him. “You really mean that?”

He nodded once. “I do.”

The room grew quiet again, except for the faint hum of the ceiling fan. I looked at him trying to figure out what was going on with him. Where was his ego? Where was my uncertainty?

Maybe it disappeared somewhere between the betrayal and the apologies. Or maybe it was still there, buried under the exhaustion and confusion of everything that had happened.

I didn’t know.
