Thalia's Pov
Eirik rushed after me as we ran outside. Shock and fear was written on my face as I stared at my son sprawled on the floor in Mirelle's arms.
"What happened?" I asked, "What the hell happened!" I screamed at her, taking Ianth away from her arms.
I checked his body for wounds but that was until I saw cake crumbs at the corner of his mouth. "What did you give to him?" I glared at Mirelle.
Mirelled took some steps backwards with a pale face. "I -- I didn't know. He only had a bite of the cake. I had no idea it would lead to this." She quickly explained.
"You knew he had allergies, didn't you?" I snapped at her angrily. Whenever I complained about Mirelle being a doctor to my own son, it always appeared that I was overprotective.
Mirelled shook. "I swear I didn't know. I just wanted to make him happy and --"
"If anything happens to Ianth...." I threatened, my eyes holding that deep warning. If anything happens to my son, I won't let her off the hook.
"We should take him to the hospital." Eirik interrupted, taking Ianth from my hands.
I was struggling to put my emotions at a normal pace but I was deeply afraid. Ianth's eyes were totally closed. He collapsed without warning because of a cake bite.
I followed Eirik into the car, not caring if Mirelle came along or not. We got to the hospital and Ianth was taken away from us into one of the wards.
I wanted to go with them, I wanted to be with my son throughout the process but they refused to allow me in so I had no choice but to wait with Eirik in the hospital's corridor.
"He will be fine," Eirik said, trying to soothe my anxiety.
I nodded, rubbing my hands against my shoulders because it wasn't working. The doctor has been in that ward for more than an hour. I was getting very tense and scared. What if something had happened?
Yet, I looked composed. I was barely trying to hold myself together, whispering in my mind that Ianth will be alright. The coldness emanating from the hospital corridor was seeping into the armless blouse I was wearing.
"I warned you about this. I told you! Now, look at what happened." I couldn't control the tumbling wave of silence that I had been trying to maintain earlier.
If Eirik hadn't given Mirelle the freewill to do whatever she wanted, especially with Ianth, she wouldn't have fed him what he was allergic to and he wouldn't have collapsed. Who am I supposed to blame?
"She only wanted to help. If you had been a little considerate about Ianth at the dining, all these wouldn't have happened." Eirik said,
I laughed. I scoffed and laughed again. Did I hear him right? Oh, here it went again, defending Mirelle. "This is my fault? She fed him cake. Ianth was allergic to those things and she fed it to him!" I raised my voice, forgetting it was a hospital.
What is he talking about? If she hadn't taken him outside under the flag of making him stop crying, she wouldn't have fed him cake. Why is no one understanding my point?
"Ianth is your son. You should treat him best! She gave him cake and so what?" Eirik shouted.
I was shocked and hurt. I mean, I was innocent yet he blames me and sides with Mirelle. What exactly did I do wrong?
"Are you the boy's parents?" The door to the ward opened and a doctor walked outside.
I walked towards him immediately. "How is he? How is my son?" I asked.
He smiled. "The boy is stable for now but he needs ro stay under observation."
"Ah. Thank you." Eirik thanked him.
"Can we see him now?" I asked and the doctor nodded.
I was the first to rush into the ward. Seeing my son on the bed, a mixture of relief and pain eluded my chest. I rushed towards him and hugged him gently while I tried to comfort him.
"Sweetheart, are you feeling any discomfort?" I dabbed his body gently.
Ianth pushed my hands away unexpectedly. "I don't want you." He murmured.
"Is something wrong? How are you feeling?" I repeated again, thinking he must be going through pains to murmur like that.
Ianth suddenly sat up and when I wanted to help him, he pushed me away. "You are the reason I am here. Go away!" He shouted weakly.
I was flabbergasted for a whole minute. Ianth blames me for what happened, just like his father did. Both of them support Mirelle. There is something missing -- it seems someone is trying to turn my family against me.
Mirelle walked nervously, her head downcast and tears stinging her eyes. "I am sorry. I didn't mean for anything to happen to Ianth. I shouldn't have given him the cake, I am sorry." She apologized.
"What exactly ---" I was about to speak when Eirik cut me off.
"It wasn't your fault, you were just trying to help." He said, accepting her apology.
I was dumbstruck. Did he just accept her apology on behalf of both of us without giving me the chance to speak?
"If Thalia had taken care of Ianth very well, stopped him from crying and given him what he wanted, this wouldn't have happened." Mirelle said remorseful, a few tears dropping on her cheeks.
My eyes burned with rage. I understood what was happening. Mirelle just shifted the blame to me for not taking care of Ianth well enough to have caused his collapse.
"It wouldn't have happened if mom had taken away the broccoli and given me milk instead." Ianth added with an eye roll.
In front of everyone, Ianth just stood up for Mirelle. Was I a statue with no feelings? A smile appeared on Mirelle's lips but it went unnoticed by the others. How would they see it anyway?
"Let me make things right. Let me stay and help Ianth recover." Mirelle’s expression returned to a solemn one.
"That's very thoughtful of you. Ianth, will you like that?" Eirik asked. Ianth nodded with a wide smile on his face.
My heart almost dropped to my feet. My husband just agreed without consulting me first.
