Lorelei

The truck lurched like a drunk beast.

It wasn't the normal sway and bump of the road. This was a violent, sideways thrust that slammed me against the wall of crates.

A cry tore from my raw throat. I scrambled, my broken body screaming in protest, and managed to hook my fingers around a metal handle on the door.
