Going public with the relationship

News that Su Xiaotang and Gu Yanchen were together spread through the company like wildfire.

At first, many refused to believe it—rumors, they said. After all, one was the aloof, omnipotent CEO, the other a brand-new junior assistant; the pairing seemed impossible.

But Gu Yanchen’s daily routine soon silenced every skeptic.

Every morning he dropped her off at the lobby, every evening he waited at the curb. At lunch, Assistant Lin would deliver her favorite dishes to the 35th floor. If they met in the corridor, Gu Yanchen would casually reach for her hand.

These gestures were as public as a declaration: Su Xiaotang was his girlfriend.

Curious stares turned to envy, then to genuine wishes. His devotion was too obvious to deny.

That afternoon, while Su Xiaotang was sorting files, Gu Yanchen appeared at the entrance of Administration.

“Su Xiaotang, come with me.”

Every head swiveled. Blushing, she set her work aside and followed.

“Where are we going?” she asked once they were alone in the corridor.

“Somewhere special.” He smiled and took her hand—warm, reassuring.

They reached the rooftop terrace, the city sprawling beneath them.

“It’s beautiful,” she breathed.

“Glad you like it. From now on, this is our secret hideaway. Whenever you miss me, come here and look out.”

He wrapped his arms around her from behind. Su Xiaotang’s heart skipped. She rose on tiptoe and brushed a kiss across his cheek.

“I’ll miss you every day.”

He laughed softly, turned her in his arms, and kissed her—gentle, mint-flavored, heart-stopping.

Sunlight bathed them; the world felt perfect.

That evening he took her to an intimate French restaurant—low lights, soft jazz, ideal for lovers.

“The steak here is excellent.” He cut a portion for her.

Mid-meal he set down his knife. “Spend next weekend with my parents.”

Su Xiaotang nearly choked. “Meet your parents? Isn’t that… fast?”

“I want them to know you—my girlfriend.” His eyes were steady.

“What if they don’t like me?” Her voice quavered at the thought of formidable in-laws.

“They will. They’re easygoing, and I’ll protect you.”

She searched his face, found only certainty, and nodded.

The weekend arrived. Su Xiaotang barely slept the night before, trying on half her wardrobe. Finally she chose a powder-blue dress with a white bolero—simple, soft.

Gu Yanchen picked her up, amused by her nerves. “They won’t bite.”

His home was a sleek villa in an exclusive enclave—modern, castle-like.

Inside, a kindly couple rose from the sofa.

“Dad, Mom—this is Su Xiaotang.”

“Uncle, Aunt—nice to meet you.” She bowed, palms sweating.

“Come, sit. We’ve heard so much about you.” Mrs. Gu’s smile was warm; Mr. Gu nodded approvingly.

Over lunch Mrs. Gu piled food onto her plate, asking about her family and work—no hauteur, only genuine interest. Gradually Su Xiaotang relaxed.

After dessert Mrs. Gu drew her aside. “Yan Chen has always been distant. Seeing him smile because of you—thank you. We don’t care about pedigree; we care about happiness.” She squeezed Su Xiaotang’s hands. “Visit often.”

Driving home, Su Xiaotang exhaled a long breath. “Your parents are wonderful.”

“I told you.” He squeezed the hand entwined with his. “Now you can stop worrying.”

She leaned against his shoulder, smiling. “Now I can stop worrying.”

He knew, with absolute certainty, that he had chosen the right person.
