Chapter 7 Dad's Warning

I stood waiting for Edwards to get closer, but he got closer and even walked past me ahead to the door.

Watching him walk pass, I got so thrilled at the way he turned the proposal against Jameson. I followed right after him, without even having one last look at Jameson before leaving his office.

Edwards who had walked ahead didn't bother reducing his fast pace but walked rather faster towards the reception.

“You didn't tell me you were being chased”, I scoffed.

“Don’t you know this walls have ears, we should discuss in the car”, he opined.

I remained silent after that moment but kept walking till we got out of the building to the garage. At the garage, he reduced his pace till I caught up with him.

“What did you want to say”, he asked, stealing glances at my thigh and then faced the road again.

“By the way, you look gorgeous in this jumpsuit”, he admitted.

“Thank you Edwards”, I responded.

Before he would say another word I added “I wasn't expecting you would come after all”

His jaws clenched, forming a stern look drooling over his face. He mumbled a reply, “I also didn't think you would be here at Jameson's office alone”.

I shrugged and kept a straight face, walking ahead. We didn't say any other word until I got to my car and unlocked it.

Edwards then muttered after being silent for what looked like a year.

“We should meet up later this evening”.

“What for?”, I enquired, to be sure we weren't meeting as a means to have a reunion of our broken relationship.

He heaved a huge sigh then stated “Jameson had said we would meet at the courthouse, do you want to go to meet him there unprepared?, we should sit to plan out whatever you will present before the judge”.

“Oh”!, I exclaimed.

“This evening then”, I assured.

I unlocked the doors of my Ford G12 and got in. Edwards didn't wait to watch me drive out of the gates of Irish Headquarters, instead he turned and walked away just as I entered my G12 Ford car.

I hope he isn't angry at me for coming to Jameson's office alone. I had to question myself.

Igniting my car back to life I swerved out of the compound and drove into the streets. Breeze and dust splashed on my face as I drove, my nose twitched as dust passed through my nostrils making me sneeze hard.

The air felt fresh and cold after I sneezed, I had to wind up the glasses to turn on the AC. After which, I turned on the stereo system, playing some edge cutting soul music.

As the music played, I recalled Jameson saying “Marry me Zina”. I blurted out immediately, “You are a joker Jameson” and laughed out loud.

I had to turn off the stereo as it only reminded me of my misery. Luckily, my head cleared when I turned off the music. I concentrated on getting home as I will be out in the evening to meet with Edwards.

Minutes passed and I arrived home. I screeched the car to a halt as I drove into the car parking space.

Just as I stepped out of the vehicle and headed to the door entrance, my dad lashed out “What is so wrong with you Zina”.

My lips trembled, hearing his hoarse voice rend the quiet atmosphere in two.

“Zina, why are you hell-bent on tarnishing my image”. He bewailed.

“What's so wrong Dad?”, I enquired, dragging my feet along as his voice almost froze my heart.

“Why do you want to create a problem between us and the Irish family?. I told you the factory can not be gotten back, I've sold it and it's gone, get that into your head Zina”.

The pangs banging on my head gradually reduced just as he mentioned the Irish family. I wasn't scared of the Irish family anyway, so I was now ready to hear what next he had to say and to give my response swiftly.

“Oh!”, he had to call you to wade me off the track of getting back the factory”. “I won't fall for that cheap threat”, I sneered. As I got into the house, I walked straight ahead to my room, but before I took the stairs to the room, my dad called out angrily.

“Zina, I want you to stop right there and listen to me”.

I stopped and slowly turned to look in his direction. His voice drew my mom's attention, she came joggling downstairs from Alice's room.

“Hope everything is okay”, she whimpered, watching us.

I didn't have the time to respond to her when my dad called out again “Zina, I want you to back out from trying to get the factory back, and I want you to back out now”.

His voice grew louder as he uttered out words. A visible line of vein cut across his forehead and I knew he wasn't joking.

I wasn't joking either about getting back the factory. Now that I and Jameson have to meet in the courthouse, I wouldn't give up on the factory yet.

“Dad, that isn't possible”, I cut in.

“Zina, I'm sorry I didn't let you know before selling off the factory, understand that it is gone and be at peace with it”, he begged, his voice returning to normal.

“Dad, do not bother about the factory, I got everything covered”.

My dad kept mute for a second, his eyes watching me keenly. It was my mom that spoke up after watching the drama unfold for a while.

“What do you have covered?”, she asked. “That you stand a chance against the Irish family?”.

“Not just that Mom, also that Jameson will be in court for harassment”. I pouted and began climbing the stairs.

I was certain they were awestruck at my response, their eyes were wide open in shock. They even followed me with their eyes until I disappeared from their sight.

I threw myself on the soft comfy bed as I stepped into the room. I lay straight with my back on the soft foam. It massaged me thoroughly. My eyes met the ceiling, it looked like it was spinning, but it wasn't. I felt dizzy so I had to close my eyes to relieve my head of the stress.

Just as I locked my eyes, my phone beeped from the inside of my bag, after some seconds, it beeped again, and then a third time.
