"Carlos. You're back?" Laura was so happy to hear her boyfriend's voice again. It had been a few months since Carlos had left for his military service.
"Yes. What are you angry about, darling?"
"Never mind. It's not important. Where are you right now?"
"Right now I'm in front of Romano's Hospital."
"What?" Laura hurriedly got up from her seat to look at the window. How happy she was to see him waving at her. Laura quickly turned around and went out to meet Carlos.
Laura immediately jumped into Carlos's arms. Carlos returned the hug with a very tight hug. They let go of their longing for each other.
"I missed you so much, Carlos," Laura said.
"I'm much more tormented because of it, sweetheart." Laura released his embrace. "Are you busy?" Laura shook her head quickly. "Want to go for a walk with me?"
"Sure." Laura and Carlos turned to Millie and the others, who were staring at them from a distance. The two waved their hands as if to say goodbye, if they wanted to leave for a while. Of course, Millie and the others welcomed them happily.
Laura and Carlos arrived at their favorite restaurant. It was where they first met and not too far from Romano's Hospital. It was always the perfect place to spend time together in between Laura's work.
"Why do you look so gloomy? Is there something bothering you right now?" Carlos asked. While waiting for the food they had ordered. Carlos kept holding Laura's hand on the table. Laura took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.
"As usual. The clientele at Romano's is dwindling by the day. I'm not sure I can hold out for much longer."
"Honey. You've sacrificed so much for the hospital. Don't blame yourself too much if something happens. I'm sure, looking at this, your parents must be proud in heaven." Laura smiled.
"Maybe you're right. But something else is bothering me today."
"What is it?"
"Kylen Dominic. I don't know what's gotten into him. But he's been acting very strange towards me today."
"Kylen Dominic? How do you know each other?" Carlos's words sounded increasingly high-pitched.
"Actually, last night-"
"Good afternoon, miss. Here's the food you ordered," said the waitress, who arrived suddenly. She hurried the food on the tray to the table in front of the couple.
"Thank you," Carlos said. Diverting his attention. "Wow. This food still looks as good as when we first met," Carlos complimented with sparkling eyes. Laura just smiled a little. She was too lazy to reply to the food because there were other things that were more important than that.
Laura cast her gaze in another direction. She accidentally saw Kylen enter the restaurant, followed by his scary-faced bodyguards. Before she could tell Carlos, suddenly a group of men in black suits were already standing around their table.
"I think this seat is still empty," Kylen said as he pulled the chair next to Laura closer to the girl.
"What are you doing here?" Laura asked with an angry face.
"I should be the one asking. What are you doing here with that guy?"
"This is Carlos Stewart. My fiancé," Laura said proudly. Carlos looked awkward. But he held out his hand, anyway. Kylen smiled and took the hand. He also pulled hard enough that Carlos's body was pulled forward.
"I hope. You will leave soon. Because Laura is mine," Kylen said in an emphatic tone. Then he released his grip. Carlos gave a small smile.
"But I already had Laura long before you knew her."
"I don't care. You should leave immediately. Otherwise, I can't guarantee you'll be able to breathe tomorrow morning." Laura didn't want to waste this opportunity to kick Kylen out of her life.
"Don't talk nonsense. We're getting married tomorrow!" Laura said as she grabbed Carlos's hand. Her words made both men immediately turn their heads.
"What? You can't do this, Laura!"
"Why can't I? We've been planning this for a long time. And you can't change our decision." Laura returned Kylen's gaze fiercely. Kylen couldn't even reply to her words.
"Fine, you win," Kylen retorted to the astonishment of his bodyguards. He rarely gave in easily like this. "Let's go!" he said as he got up.
"But, Master-"
"Go!" he snapped at the man.
"Yes, sir." The bodyguards immediately walked away. Kylen glanced at Laura briefly before leaving. Laura smiled and breathed a sigh of relief.
"Finally, he's gone too."
"Are you sure you're going to marry me tomorrow?" Carlos asked. Laura's cheerful expression immediately turned to surprise.
"So what? What's wrong? This is the only way to get him out of my life. Look, right! He left after I said that."
"I think it's too soon."
"What's too soon? We've been in a relationship for quite some time. Besides, it's the only way to get rid of that guy unless you no longer want to have me as a whole." Laura played her fingers on the back of Carlos's hand with a seductive smile. Carlos understood where she was going with this. Ever since they started dating, Laura had not wanted to have sex with him before marriage. So, if he really wanted Laura, this was the perfect time.
"You're right. All right. I'll call my family right away." Carlos took Laura's hand and kissed it. Laura smiled sweetly.
"Thank you, Carlos."
The next day, Laura and Carlos's wedding actually took place. Laura wore a beautiful wedding dress. She stood in front of the altar with the nurses accompanying her. The priest was ready to marry them. However, Carlos was nowhere to be seen. In fact, Laura had been waiting there for half an hour.
"Why hasn't Carlos shown up yet? Is he okay?" Laura said with a worried look on her face.
"He will definitely come. There might be some trouble on the way. He'll be here soon." Millie said, to calm Laura's heart. Laura took out her cell phone and called him. Unfortunately, since a few minutes ago Carlos' cell phone could not be reached. Previously, they were still texting each other. Laura's face looked increasingly anxious. Especially when she remembered Kylen's threat yesterday.
"How is it, Miss? Where is your groom? Is he coming? I've waited too long."
"Sorry, sir. May I ask for a moment of your time? We believe the groom is on his way," Millie replied.
"Don't wait for him! He's not coming," said Kylen, who suddenly appeared with his bodyguards.
"What do you mean by saying that?" Laura asked with emotion. Kylen smiled briefly.
"That's the truth. I just don't want a pretty girl like you to wait for an asshole like him," Kylen said as he stroked Laura's cheek. Laura immediately slapped Kylen's cheek quite hard. It startled the crowd.
"What have you done to him?" Kylen smiled proudly as he lowered his face.
"Something I should have done," Kylen replied with a triumphant smile. "You'd better marry me. I can make you so much happier. Including helping your family's nearly bankrupt hospital.”
"No. I would never marry a man like you. You must have harmed Carlos, right? You're such a bastard! You're such a Devil!" Laura beat Kylen's chest repeatedly while continuing to utter swear words. Kylen did not retaliate, and even forbade his men from approaching Laura. After she was done crying. Laura lifted the hem of her dress. "Do whatever you want, but you'll never get my love," Laura said and left.
