Chapter Two

Slowly I glanced at the door as my heart hammered inside my chest and I almost gasped when the groom entered.

The guests stared at him surprised as well and began to whisper hysterically into each other's ears. He was tall, elegant looking and as stunning as they said, his aura filled the room in a matter of minutes.

Not the least bothered by the whispers or stares he walked gracefully toward my father, taking each step with confidence.

"Rasmus," he said, shaking my father's hand.

My father, on the other hand, gestured toward me.

As I saw him turn to me I looked down quickly, then heard the clicking sound of his footsteps as he walked towards the priest and faced him.

He didn't utter a word. Wasn't he supposed to acknowledge me at least? I was dressed this extravagantly because of him.

"Today, we gather her to seal the bond of man and wife.”

The priest spoke to the audience, then gave us a nod for us to turn and face each other.

As I faced him, I couldn't help my surprised expression. He looked good from afar, but up close he was even more handsome. His raven black hair was combed back and fell to the base of his neck, his hazel eyes were cold but didn't seem to carry any hate. He chuckled slightly when he saw my expression. I quickly looked down, heat filling my cheeks.

After we took our vows, we led our guests to the reception venue. It was a Mafia wedding so we had few guests, only people of high status attended, mt father made sure of that.

As we settled down with me beside my newly-wed, father called the attention of his guests.

He raised his wine glass, "Let the ceremony begin, and enjoy yourselves."

People clapped while dancers and musicians walked in to entertain the guests.

Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. I, of course, couldn't see since I kept my gaze down. My husband hadn't spoken a word to me and I wondered why.

"Don't you like the music?" He finally asked, breaking the awkward silence.

I peeked through my long lashes, but once I gazed into his eyes, it was hard to look away. They were captivating.

"I do sir," I replied.

“Sir?” He scoffed.

“I'm your husband now, calling me that isn't acceptable.”

“So what should I call you ?” I asked, finally raising my head up, my expression slightly disgusted.

“ How about Levi for now?” he said, turning his gaze away from me to the crowd.

“Okay, Levi.” I guess I could manage that.

“What do you have in store for the wine ceremony?"

Oh no! The wine ceremony! Father told me about it, it was an Addams family tradition, where the bride has to show one of her talents to impress the groom and guests.

Hell with impressing. I didn't want to impress anyone, especially not this man.

"It is a surprise, Levi," I said, sending him a staged smile.

I was sitting in a chair in the middle of the room with everyone's attention directed at me. It was time for the wine ceremony.

The guests would sit and enjoy their wine while I would have to entertain them.

I took up my violin before lightly placing it on my shoulders and started playing. Soon my nervousness disappeared.

I loved playing the violin, loved the sound of it. It was the only thing Father had let me learn and it kept me happy all through college.

Closing my eyes, I let the sound take me far away, to a peaceful place. Now and then I would hear some people praising me through my haze and then they applauded when I was done.

Opening my eyes, I found Levi staring directly at me. He wasn't applauding but there was a hint of a smile on his face, a smile that didn't seem to reach his eyes.

Now it was time for the gift exchange. We exchanged our gifts, and then it was time for me to go to my new home. The knot in my stomach returned with such an intensity that I felt like throwing up this time.

Mother came up to me while father spoke to my husband. Husband? The word still sounded strange in my head.

She took my hands in hers.

"Everything will be fine," she said, "just remember what I told you".

Yes, I remembered very clearly our mother and daughter discussion. To be a good wife, always listen to your husband and do not make him angry.

"Yes, I will," I said, enveloping her in a tight hug. I had planned not to,but right now I didn't care because I was going to miss seeing her.

Our ride home was a shiny black limo surrounded by other very expensive looking cars already waiting outside. Levi, or should I say, my husband led the way.

I looked behind me one last time and found Lydia and Andy standing at the entrance of the hall , their cheeks wet with tears.

"I will miss you too," I whispered as we drove off.

I listened to the sounds of other cars around us trying to calm myself. I was alone with this man now.

Marrying a Mafia leader was not how I had pictured my future, but then my father made sure my future wasn't in my hands at all.

What if he had other mistresses I thought and I suddenly felt angry. I didn't have the right to be angry, Mafia men were known to live wild and they had influenced my father to do the same.

They threw parties and slept with different women all the time, I knew that but somehow I felt jealous.

“Do you have mistresses?” I asked, surprised it had come out of my mouth. It wasn't my business to know that, I was already sure I offended him.

“Do you want me to?” He said and I could tell there was a smirk on his face. To hell with this man. I didn't like him at all.

“You're free to do whatever you want.” I scoffed. If I was just going to be his housewife while he worked and had fun with other women then so be it.

He suddenly placed his hand on mine making me look up at him, I quickly looked down still surprised by his actions.

“ You don't need to worry about Mistresses, I don't have those.” He said and I suddenly felt better.

Wait, why did I even care? It didn't matter, I still didn't like him.

“You seem to like that.” He said again, rubbing his thumb over my rose colored cheeks, chuckling slightly.

Who was this man? He didn't seem like the devil at all.
