The summer night was heavy with humidity, the air thick and still in the dimly lit living room. Jace sat alone on the couch, his eyes flicking towards the doorway every few seconds. Where was she? Vanessa had invited him over for a late-night hangout, just the two of them, after Liam had gone to bed.
