Selene’s eyes widened at the mention of her name. He had said it in a way that suggested that he knew her, and that only made her even more uncomfortable. She tried to credit it to his powers, but she couldn’t shake off how oddly familiar his eyes were.
His crimson and gold eyes stared back at her with a hint of amusement that made her feel strange.
“Alpha………” She trailed off, not knowing how to address him.
“Damon. Seems you don’t remember me, do you?” He asked, taking slow, imposing steps towards her.
Selene found herself taking a step backward, as she swallowed hard, hating how intimidated he was trying to make her. Only then did she realize that she was alone with him, and Dante had disappeared as though he was never there in the first place. What a coward.
He paused just few steps away from her, and bent slightly to look into her face. “You are afraid of me.” He said, more like a matter of fact, than a question, and Selene forced herself to look up at him, masking her face with cold bravery.
But damn, those eyes and face, how could she stop staring. “Alpha Damon, Alpha Seth is currently in a meeting, and I would suggest you wait for him, unless you can discuss such matters with me.”
His eyes flickered to her lips as she spoke, and he stared at them for too long that she ended up biting her lips out of sheer nervousness.
His eyes darkened, but then he straightened his back and went to sit back down on one of the seats in the office, his attitude graceful.
She almost sighed from relief when he moved away from her, but she remained standing, watching him relax into the seat, as though he owned the place.
“Sit down Selene, let’s talk.” He said, his eyes boring into hers in a way that made her heart race.
He was calling her Selene again, like he was an acquaintance. But she didn’t ask him about it, and instead dragged her feet to a seat opposite his, and settled into it.
His eyes never left hers as she moved, it was almost as though he was savoring every moment, making her heart thumb even harder in her chest. She tried to avoid his gaze, which was too deep for her to ignore, it made her want to imagine things she shouldn’t.
“I hear the Bloodmoon Pack belongs to you.” He said suddenly, catching her unawares. She nodded instantly, but then she paused. How did he know about the Bloodmoon Pack?
She met his eyes across the room, the crimson and gold eyes sending a wave of uneasiness through her.
“How did you know that?” She asked, sitting up straight, as her thoughts began to run wild.
A small side of his lips curved upwards, but his eyes remained cold and distant. “Well, I know a lot of things. I also know that your mate deserted you for another, and you are at the verge of losing everything, including your position.” He whispered, his eyes darkening with every word he said.
Her heart began racing in a way that she almost felt the need to run away. He was messing with her head, he might be an Alpha, but he still had the devil’s blood running through his veins. And somehow, she knew that he was trying to get something out of her, and that alone made her restless.
“What do you want?” Her voice was icy cold, and she couldn’t hide the displeasure in her voice.
He leaned in gently, his eyes holding hers in an intense gaze that made it impossible for her to look away, and worse still, she didn’t want to.
“I can help you. I can help you get back your Pack, make your mate and the entire pack see the true colours of the she-wolf they had chosen over you, and still make them beg to have you back. I can give you all that and more, all you need to do is ask.”
Selene’s heart was pounding furiously at his words, and no matter how much she tried to outweigh his words, it kept ringing in her brain. She reminded herself furiously that this was the devil, and you do not make deals with the devil, else you lose yourself.
“Why would you do that?” She finally asked, her voice strong but yet low. She could admit that he was getting into her head, and she didn’t know what to expect from him wanting to help her. Someone he knew nothing about.
Damon leaned back into his seat, his eyes holding a smile that lit up his face in a nonchalant manner. “Let’s say, because I can.” He shrugged with a smirk.
Selene wasn’t convinced. Her lashes flickered and she forced a smile to her face. “I appreciate your offer, Alpha Damon, since your discussion with Alpha Seth does not concern me, I would beg to take my leave now.” With that, she got to her feet.
She might not have seen him before today, but she had heard rumors in the past, of how he made deals with people, using their deepest needs to lure them into a trap. She was not going to fall into another trap, not anymore.
“This is my terms. I want you to become my mate.” He suddenly said, jolting her movement.
Selene turned back to him; her eyes as wide as saucers as she looked at him as though he had lost his mind. “You want me to what?” She asked, as though making sure she heard him correctly.
Seeing he got her attention again, Damon got to his feet, as strolled towards where she stood, until he was facing her. He gently lowered his shoulder, until he was at the same level with her height, their faces were almost touching, and their breaths mingling, until their lips nearly brushed.
Selene forgot how to breath, all she could feel at this point was the tension, and the continuous fast beating of her heart, almost as if she was going to have a heart attack.
She tried to speak, but her mouth felt so dry, and she swallowed a couple of times. He reached out and removed a strand of her hair from her face, his movement still provocatively graceful.
“Let me get this straight, I don’t make offers that I do not intend to keep, I can get you all I said, only if you will become my mate.” He said, dragging the word ‘Mate,’ as though to force her to paint the vivid image of being claimed by him.
Her hand reached out to touch the mate mark Seth had once given her. And she subconsciously took a step back, but he reached out to grab her by the waist before she could move away, bringing her even closer to him.
A moan left her lips, and his eyes darkened at that. He pinned her down with his gaze, his eyes flickering from her mark to her lips, and then back to her eyes.
A small smirk appeared on his face. “We don’t need to touch the mark if you don’t want to, we can keep it completely contractual.” He said, his eyes drawn to her lips again.
Selene swallowed. She understood what he meant, if he marked a bite upon Seth mark, then it would completely break his claim on her. She shuddered unconsciously at that.
“Contractual?” She asked, suddenly recalling what he had just said.
Letting her go, he straightened his body. “Yes, contractual. I happen to be in need of a mate, and you come in handy.” He told her with a smirk.
Selene didn’t know how to feel about it, she looked at him with a puzzled expression on her face. “What?” She still didn’t know how to react to how fast everything was happening.
“Let me make my offer again, I will give you all you I said earlier, all you need to do is to pretend to be my mate for 1 year, for which I will also pay you handsomely, and still return your pack to you in the 5th month. You can hold me by my word.” His eyes boring into hers told her that he was not joking, and he meant every single word he said.
Selene felt as though she was going to collapse the next minute, and she couldn’t stop looking into his eyes which was still boring into hers.
This was too much, she couldn’t do this, she shouldn’t. If she agreed to his terms, no matter how tempting it sounded, she would be making a deal with the devil, and there is no way she would be leaving without a scar.
“How can I trust you?” She asked, her lashes flickering, and her lips trembling. “Why do I feel this is not all there is to it?” She said pointedly, and for a moment, he chuckled.
“How about I prove to you that you can still make your mate jealous, and you can get him back, or you can take your revenge?” He asked.
She shook her head. “I don’t…………..” But her words were cut short when his lips suddenly crashed onto hers.
Her eyes flew open, and her heart began to beat with thuds. She meant to push him away, but he gently secured her hands with one hand, pulling them around his neck instead.
Suddenly, the door opened, and Seth walked in. Upon seeing the scene before him, he stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes wide with shock, and his mouth left agape. Just then, Dante and Julia strolled in too, one after the other, and their reactions was just the same. Shock.
