Chapter 4: Big Bad Wolf

The sun glared out of a clear blue sky.

Jake walks into a coffee shop to meet a family friend. He wore a big fancy smile.

On seeing Jake, Elena tightened her chin. "Get that smile off your face," she sighed.

Jake ignoring her, smiled more as he took his seat. "Don't go around hating my fancy charming smile," he joked.

Elena's chin is still tightened and not smiling at the hint of his joke. "So what I hear is true," she muttered, brushing back her natural grey hair.

"And what is it you heard?" Jake emitted a soft sigh to cover up the pretense written all over him. He knows what she means but wants to play smart.

"The Luna, Jonathan Cage's daughter," she replied with a scowling gaze. "Don't deny it. Admit the truth because news flies." She folded her arms and fumes.

With one side of his lips raised a bit, the closed mouth raised eyebrow -- he bit the bottom of his lip gently. "The news you heard is true," he said, admitting to his guilt. "I am sorry you have to hear..."

"It doesn't matter," she interrupted. "If she makes you happy, then go for her." The more she tried to pretend and hide her jealousy, the more evident it became.

Jake grabbed Elena's palm, carrying it gently with a pitiful smile. "Don't worry, we still have each other as best friends."

To him, his words might have taken her jealousy away but it made it worse when he used the 'BF' word. Elena McCormick has been crushing on Jake right from their teenage. She comes from a very powerful line of witches known as Chloe's bloodline or Chloe's descendant.

Her family has been loyal to the Brown bloodline even though they were considered inferior. Their loyalty dates back to centuries. She was hoping to be Jake's mate even though she wasn't a wolf like him.

This isn't what she wanted. She wants intimacy with Jake and not just to be his best friend. She pulled her hand away from Jake and glanced at him with both eyebrows raised to her hairline, "I don't know what to say," she said.

"Of course you do," Jake smirked. "You can congratulate me."

She rolled her eyes and sighed loudly, "Why her?"

Elena is quite an easygoing person. Her family likened her to their ancestors, Chloe. She's the first after Chloe to have natural grey hair at a tender age. They believe it's a sign of reincarnation power or that she possesses the spirit of Chloe.

Her long white hair is often tied into a knot. When she breaks into a smile, her shinny white halo teeth become visible and glitter.

Elena's question kicked Jake off guard. He slid his tongue across his teeth as he tapped his feet on the flow. He's nervous and doesn't know how to bail out from the question. He can't deny he isn't sensing jealousy. He isn't blind: all these years, he knows Elena feels something for him but instead, he turns a blind eye and chooses to be in a friend zone.

When she looked up, her gaze seared him. "Won't you answer me?"

He nodded slowly. "I wish I could turn the hands of the clock."

"And then what?" She widened her gaze on him. "Do you know I have been in love with you all these years and you act as if you didn't notice? It hurts me, Jake... It hurts." A sob escaped her lips as she tried to blink away her tears.

For the first time, Jake's heart skipped with pain. He never intended to hurt anyone. He gently wiped her tears. "I am sorry, Elena," he squeezes out. "I don't mean to hurt you."

"You already did," she mumbled. "You failed to notice my affection. It hurts now you will be married to a Luna."

"I will make it up to you."

"No, you won't," she blurted. "Even if you want to, what exactly will you do?" She rose to her feet, grabbing her purse. Without saying goodbyes, she left.

Jake became spellbound and disoriented. He can't afford to lose her as a friend. As he sat down thinking about what to do, a shadow hovered over him. He flicked around. His eyes were drawn to a 5ft tall neatly shaved young man, dressed in an Italian blue suit. The young man's cologne filled the entire coffee shop. His blue gaze seared Jake.

"OMG, Jude?" Jake exclaimed, rising to his feet to greet him. "Where the hell have you been?" He is more than surprised to see Jude More, the son of Mike.

Jake brought his hand for a shale but was ignored by Jude.

"What a homecoming," Jude smirked slyly. "I am not here as your friend but to warn you to stay away from Helen."

As he turned to leave, Jake spoke up, "I will not do what you have said." He threw a few steps closer to Jude and stood behind him. He continued, "If you want her, get in line!"

Jude's was distorted with rage. His eyes nearly glowed in the public but he controlled his form including his bestial fangs and claws that nearly popped out. What he can't control is kicking Jake's ass.

He swerved, gripping Jake by the throat and flings him across the table, causing a scene. This isn't a coffee shop for their kind but humans are here too.

He leaped across the table and pinned Jake down to the ground. Raising his hand to land a punch, Jake fought back. "Get off me!" he yelled, kicking Jude off.

They both sprang to their feet at once, stalking each other like the predator they were and calculating their next move. Not minding they have already created a scene, they don't want to back down fighting each other.

Being from the inferior clan doesn't mean Jake is willing to back down from this fight. He's ever ready to exhibit his strength. He locks his gaze on his target, snorting repeatedly in rage.
