Alpha Darrel pov
I took some days off work before going to Alpha Baron's birthday party. I have to plan and prepare to bring in my mate because that's what I need right now. The chiefs are already complaining about my single life, and how important it is that I bring in a mate.
"Darrel, what are you doing here?" My mom asked when she got to where I was sitting, I have been avoiding having a conversation with her, I didn't know when she got back from her trip.
"You're back?" I asked her, looking surprised. She stared at me and sat on the couch.
"I returned last night." She said to me abd gulped the wine in the glass she was holding. I can't believe mom is still living this life. The elders has been complaining about it since I was little, I grew up hearing several nonsense about her not being faithful to dad.
"What trip was that? Because you didn't tell me you had a business meeting outside the pack." With the look on her face i could already tell she was going to lie about where she went to.
"Mom! Why do you keep doing this?" I yelled at her angrily. I was so pissed at her that I couldn't talk gently. The way she kept defending her action is what pissed me off the most.
"Darrel, I will not have you speak to me that way! I'm still your mother." She yelled back at me, I knew she was trying not to answer the question I asked that's why she kept yelling back.
"Mom, when are you going to stop this? Do you know how embarrassing it was while growing up? I kept hearing a lot of rumors about the way you move around." My mom was quiet, she didn't say anything to me, she just acted like she didn't care and I wasn't talking to her.
"Are you trying to say you believed the rumors?" She asked, with the way she couldn't look me in the face when she asked the question I already knew she was feeling bad.
"I tried not to." She looked at me the moment she heard what I said.
"That's what matters, you don't have to listen to them, I am your mother and I can do anything for you, you know that right? So don't listen to all these rumors, they're all trying to bring me down," I knew she was lying but I decided to stop the topic and stop asking her questions.
I was very disappointed in her but I had to swallow it because at the end of the day I don't want to believe the rumor is true, I would need to catch her in the act before I can fully believe that she is what the pack has labeled her to be.
"How is the preparation for a mate going?" She asked me as she was pouring herself another glass of wine.
"Mom, have you forgotten what the doctor told you about drinking too much?" I asked her. She looked at me for a while and stopped the bottle. "You are really after my life at this point," She said to me and gulped the little she could pour into the cup.
"I asked a question." I dropped the boom I was reading abs focused on the new topic because it's something that has been troubling me.
"I have not started making any move." My mom looked shocked to hear what I said. I knew she would be because she thought I was already making my own research.
"What do you mean? Have you not heard what the people in the park are saying? Some think there is something wrong with you and the way you rejected that useless maid in front of everyone." I sighed after listening to my mom. I know that list of the people in the pack would talk about the way I handled everything that day.
"Everyone has the right to think what ever they want to think about. I do not care, because they are saying all those things would not make me choose just anyone to be my mate." I explained to my mom. She nodded her head in agreement to what I said.
"I understand what you are saying but you do realize we don't have time, here is no time to waste, we need to start looking for a mate for you." My mom said to me and while we were talking Lilian walked up to us.
"What are you doing here? Can't you see we are talking?" My mom asked her angrily.
"Good day Luna, I was just about to tell you that breakfast is ready." I looked at my mom after hearing what Lilian said, because maybe if she was calm enough to listen before judging she would have known Lilian was only here to tell us breakfast is ready.
"Okay, you can go." My mom said to her and she immediately left. I was staying at her because I realized how calm she was and how she didn't look offended when my mom scolded her.
"Darrel don't you dare," I was shocked to hear what my mom said, I wonder why she said such a thing.
"What do you mean mom?" I asked her still trying to wrap my head around what she was trying to say.
"I saw the way you were staring at her, I will not let you go for someone less, she doesn't match up to your standard, I will not let that happen." I was not expecting this conversation from my mom.
"Mom, why did you even conclude like that? I have no interest in her, Lilian is just my friend." I replied my mom. She stared at my face after hearing what I said. I don't know why she even thought there was something more than friendship between both of us.
"If you're telling the truth then it's fine, just know that I will never accept her." She said to me while standing up from where she was sitting.
We both headed to the dinning so we could eat our breakfast. While I was eating my mom kept staring at me, it was more like she didn't trust me, especially after she saw me staring at Lilian, she finds it hard to believe that Lilian and I have nothing to do with each other.
"Mom, can you stop staring at me like that?" I said to her with a smile on my face. The way she kept staring at me was hilarious, she was acting like the moment she looks away I would get married to Lilian.
"How did you see me looking at you?" She asked and we both laughed. It's been a while since my mom had I had a fun moment together, we've been really serious with everything these past few days.
We both remained quiet until we were done eating then I headed to my chamber, I will be meeting with the chiefs today for a brief meeting.
"Good day Alpha Baron." Albert greeted and we entered my chamber together. Albert had something very important to take care of very early in the morning which is why he's just coming.
"You need to take a break at this point," I said to him when I saw the look on his face, anyone that sees his face could tell that he was stressed.
"That's not happening now, the chiefs are pressing really hard about this your marriage." I placed my hand on my forehead when I heard what Albert said, then I realized that must be the reason why they want to have a brief meeting with me today.
"I can't believe these old men." I muttered tiredly.
