CHAPTER 16

  Edna pov

When we were done shopping in the mall we both headed back to the pack house. I was completely exhausted from the stress, we kept walking around the mall and at the end of the day we left with so many bags.

We finally arrived at the park house and the maids brought in everything.

"Be careful while taking them in." My aunt scolded the maids as they were taking the bags inside. They carefully carried all of them inside the house and I walked in with my aunt.

When I got in I was surprised to see how decorated the house looked. Aaron must mean the world to his mom. She has prepared so much for him but there's no one doing anything to help welcome him, not even his dad is helping and he has been at home all day. I was curious to know what is wrong with Aaron and why the family is not happy about his return.

"This is beautiful." she said with a bright smile on her face as she walked into the house.

I headed back to my room so I could take a nap.

  "Edna, please help me…"

"I'm going to my room." I interrupted immediately because she kept telling me to do things like she was giving me a punishment. When she heard what I said she didn't say anything. Instead she sent the maid then I headed to my room. I can't believe she was about to send me on another errand when we just got back from the mall.

The moment I got into the room I fell on the bed and yawned, it was quite a stressful day, I needed to rest a little before going back downstairs.

While I was on the bed I remembered my conversation with dad and how he told me about the family that wants me as their son's wife. I couldn't stop thinking of the family it would be and if they would treat me right like my new family has been treating me since I joined them.

My dad spoke highly of them so there's no wag they would treat me wrongly. I covered my face with my hand and stood up from the bed, with the intention of stepping out of my room.

I couldn't stay inside the room because I was trying to avoid a situation where my ain't would start telling everyone that chose to listen that I did not help her do anything. I have been trying to keep a good profile in the pack houses. No one would have anything bad to say about me.

"Thought you were going to rest." My aunt said to me the moment she sighted me.

"I know you still need my help." I replied to her that had we all started the work, no one else agreed to help her which made me feel bad for her.

Joining them made it easier for the work to move fast.

When we were done I went to the kitchen to check how the food making is going, getting there I realized they were done cooking.

"He's here." My aunty said excitedly. She couldn't give the excitement on her face, so she rushed upstairs to tell his dad that their son had arrived in the pack and he'll be home sooner than they expected.

I helped with the table set up and within minutes we were done, I couldn't stop looking at the setting and how we make everything look so beautiful.

She raised back downstairs but looking sad, she didn't look happy while walking downstairs, I could tell there was something wrong. I was waiting for my uncle to come downstairs but there was still no trace of him.

Instead Amber was the one walking down the stairs, she was, she was done with her studies for the day.

"Amber." I called her name and she walked towards me.

"I can't believe y'all are doing this setup for Aaron." Amber said to me almost in a whisper.

"Why do you all sound like Aaron is not a part of this family, no one's excited about his return." I said to Amber because I was curious to know the story behind what's going on.

"He's here, you'll understand when he gets here." she said to me. She only made me even more curious with the way she sounded.

"You all are scaring me with your takes." I replied in a whisper.

Amber sighed and we both stepped out of the house. The car that went to fetch Aaron drove into the compound and I turned to look at my aunt, she looked very excited to have her son back home.

A young boy in his early twenties stepped out of the car. He looked perfectly okay which leaves me wondering why everyone has something wrong to say about him and why they are not excited about his return.

He walked closer to us and hugged his mom.

"Look at my baby." His mom said to him with a bright smile on her face. She couldn't stop smiling as she was looking at his face.

"How was your trip back home?" His mother asked as they both walked in, his eyes met with mine but he looked away immediately, I couldn't greet him because of the way he looked away.

When he got into the house he looked at everything his mom prepared and walked away. Everything looked awkward to me, I couldn't say anything. I just stood there observing everything that was going on while trying to connect the dots and find out why they are not happy about his return.

His mom followed him as he was running upstairs, I was confused because he didn't act like he was grateful for the warm welcome from his mom, he just acted like an ungrateful little boy and rushed upstairs. I was slowly seeing why his dad and every other person was not excited about his return.

"Aaron." His mom kept calling his name as she was running with him.
