CHAPTER 88

  Writer's pov

"Why are the chefs and why was my dinner not warm before getting served?" He asked the maid pointing his hand towards the empty dining room because he had already finished eating. The only thing the maids mind at that moment was regret. She was regretting why decided to stay back to clean the kitchen because if she didn't Darrel wouldn't have met her there.

"They have retired to bed, sir" she replied. "Retired to bed? When I haven't eaten and what gave them the audacity to do that?" He shouted at the maid. "So where is my dinner? I can't see my food on the dining table" Darrel asked the maid.

"Sir the chef on duty had already retired to bed before you got home" Hearing that statement triggered Dan to give the maid a slap on her face. She held her cheeks as tears rolled down her cheeks.

"He went to bed without making dinner for me?"

"Considering the fact that you got back very late from work and everyone else already had their dinner, that's why it's already cold." the maid explained. The explanation didn't sit well with Darrel. "I never informed anyone that I'll be returning late from work, so what gave you all the right to have such thoughts?"

"I'm sorry sir" the maid pleaded because judging the anger on Darrel's face she knew that her job was definitely at stake. "Sorry about what exactly?"

"Even if the chef had such a thought in mind when I got back from work he should have come to and confirm if I wanted to eat or not" Darrel further explained the reason the maid gave wasn't justified. "I'm so sorry sir" the maid said again. "The continuous I'm sorry the you are saying is pissing the hell out" Darrel said angrily.

"Go and gather everyone here for me" he instructed the maid with a very angry look on his face. The maid knew that they were all going to be quarried and her job was on the line.

"All of my staff gather in the sitting room now" he instructed as the staff began to run to the sitting before Darrel came to drag them out by himself.

The noise got to Edna who was also in her room so she went to see where the noise was coming from. She thought there was maybe an argument between two of the domestic staffs in the house so she rushed out of her room.

Becky knew Darrel's voice even with her eyes closed. She was fast asleep but the noise coming from the sitting room woke her up. She heard Darrel's voice and stood up immediately. While she was running to the sitting as well as Edna they both ran into themselves.

"Have you gone blind?" Becky asked Edna rolling her eyes at her and left.

They both got to the sitting room and found Darrel scolding the domestic staff and chefs. Becky immediately rushes to stand beside Darrel so she could understand what was going on.

"All of you are bunch of idiots" he said pointing his hand at the his domestic staffs. "Darrel what's the problem?" Becky asked struggling to understand what was going on.

"Can you imagine this stupid staff of mine that I pay a salary at the end of each month l, I even feed them as well going to bed when I haven't had my dinner?" Darrel replied to Becky.

  Writer's Pov

"Which of the chefs was in charge of making dinner this night?" Darrel asked looking at all of their face waiting for the unfortunate chef to identify himself. They had only three chefs in the mansion two chefs and one chef. One of the chefs raised his hand up "I'm the one sir" the chef said.

"You are fired, get out of my mansion this moment" Darrel instructed. Becky was shocked that Darrel just fired the chef. She gripped his hand trying to calm him down because that was the best chef in the house and it took them a lot of begging before they could make him a chef in their house.

The chef has better offers but still chose to keep working in the mansion so getting him fired isn't going to hurt him at all. Becky didn't want the chef to leave because she knew that Darrel was just acting out of anger and he'll end up regretting it by tomorrow. Darrel was the one who personally pleaded with me to make sure I convinced the chef to cook for him because she knew he was just acting on his feelings.

"Darrel, what are you doing? Calm down" Becky didn't mind if he fired any other chef but not this particular one. "Please wait" Becky said as the chef was about to leave the sitting room to go and Company up his bags and leave Darrel mansion as instructed.

"Don't you dare stop him, are you trying to question my order?" Darrel asked Becky with an upset look on his face. "Do I look like I'm joking here, does he think he's the best chef in the country? He can get out for all I care, I'm definitely going to get a chef better than him" Darrel removes his mom's hand. She was only trying to calm him down.

Edna kept mute she didn't say a word she was just looking at Darrel abuse his power. This is very unlike Darrelmand she was wondering what had come over him all of a sudden. He has definitely turned into a different person.

"Why are you looking me in the eyes?" He scolded one of the maids and all the other maids immediately bent their heads to avoid eye contact with Darrel except for one maid. She didn't bend her head; she felt so insulted by the way Darrel always treated them in his mansion. "We are just maids and not his slaves" she always thought to herself. She wasn't afraid of getting fired.

"How dare you look at me like that when I am talking?" Darrel noticed that she didn't bend her head like the others and was looking him in the eyes. "What gave you the audacity to look at me like that" he thought to himself. Even after the scolding she was still staring at him like she wanted to beat him up and this got Darrel so angry that he walked towards the maid and slapped her face.

"I'm talking and you're looking into my eyes with so much anger, who do you think you are? Get out of here you are fired" Darrel instructed. The maid stood up immediately and walked out.

"You are also fired," Darrel said, pointing at the maid he met earlier. That's the third staff he fired in one night. "That's enough for one night Darrel, calm down" Becky said because she realized that Darrel was ready to fire everyone of them one after the other.

"Will you get out of my presence this moment" Darrel instructed and all they left. Only Edna and Becky remained in the sitting room with Darrel. Edna wanted to go ask him what led to the whole anger but on a second thought she knew how Darrel can be towards her when he gets so upset so she decided to just remain where she is and not bother talking to Darrel.by tomorrow she can ask the maid what happened.

Edna quietly went back to her room because she knew that her presence alone could trigger Becky and Darrel because they always want to pick on her.

"What happened Darrel? What transpired between you and the maids that made you this upset?" Becky asked Darrel with a curious look on her face. She patted his back trying to calm him down because he still looked so angry.

"How can I get back home from work expecting that my dinner would be served and I was expecting that one of the maids would come to inform me that my dinner was ready. I waited for close to thirty minutes after freshening up and no one came to tell me anything. Then I decided to go check what was delaying my dinner only for me to find out that they had all retired for the day and only one of the maids was cleaning the kitchen" Darrel narrated to Becky.

"How can they retire for the day when they haven't had dinner?" Becky finally understood what got Darrel that upset. He was hungry and that's why he got that angry. "I don't think those chefs know their duty" Becky said because she was equally upset with what happened.

"And when I asked the maid the excuse was they thought I had lunch at the office before coming home, that's why they didn't make my dinner. Can you imagine such nonsense?" Darrel asked Becky.

"That's very unprofessional and they deserve the scolding you gave them"

"I think with this example they will all know their duty in this mansion. I can't be paying them for nothing, they were lucky you came to calm me down I would have fired more of them"
