Chapter 11

  Jenna

“This is her room and that is her closet. Suit yourself.” Nathan said in a bit of a harsh tone as I followed him into Valerie’s room. Seems like she is important around here cause her room was like countless times better than mine. Who am I kidding? She is the mate of Washington’s Alpha King.

Thinking about it, I can imagine what she’d be facing from the vampire-hating community of werewolves.

I saw Nathan twist the door knob to prepare to leave, and I couldn’t help but stop him.

“Wait.” He turned around to face me with a irritated-kind-of-expression that said, ‘what do you want?’

I ignored his glare and flashed my adorable sets of teeth at him in a wide smile. I needed someone to keep my company.

“Won’t you show me around this place to help me get more familiar with this place?” I asked, but he ignored me and walked out of the room.

“Nathan, wait....” I ran out and called after him. I grabbed his arm and he finally stopped, turning around. With a fierce, intimidating look, he glanced at my fingers curled around his arm and I quickly let go of him.

He didn’t scare me. I think.

“Are you offended because I saw you naked?” I asked, “if that’s the reason, then I can totally reciprocate.” I continued and he glared at me.

“Okay, let’s forget I said that.” I realized how awkward and carnal I sounded.

“Do you really have nothing to do?” Nathan asked.

“I’m not here on work and definitely not here on a vacation, so yeah, I’m idle and therefore bored to death.” I paused, “but since you don’t want to keep my company or show me around, it’s fine. I’ll just go to my room and watch a movie until I fall asleep.” I said in a bit of a sad tone and turned around to leave.

“Fine. Wait.” Nathan stopped me and I smiled to myself. He totally fell for it. The smile on my face disappeared as I turned around to face him and he began to walk.

I followed him, walking next to him and I tried to hold his hand in mine, but he gave me a look that said, ‘don’t push it.’

Showing me around the pack was a lot more walking than I thought cause the mansion was incredibly large and every now and then, Nathan introduced me to some pack members who I found all very interesting. Our final stop was the general training ground and the most interesting.

I mean, all that filled my eyes were half naked men and their sexy abs, their muscles ripping beautifully with every movement they made.

Everyone sensed my presence and they looked at my direction all at once.

“Everyone, meet Jenna, I’m sure you already know she’s human.” Nathan introduced and I smiled at them all.

  Nathan.

I joined in the training and was lifting up a dumbbell when I heard a feminine laugh from a distance. I looked at the direction of the sound and saw a group of pack members gathered around Jenna and they were all talking like they had known her like for ever.

She’s a really social type. She was also really clingy and I know that is an excuse for staying away from her because of the weird feeling I get when with her or when looking her way.

I dropped the dumbbell and walked towards a punching bag dropping from the ceiling without taking my eyes away from the clique Jenna had quickly formed. It seemed to be getting even larger and I couldn’t help but wonder what they were all discussing.

I positioned the punching bag well and clenched my fist, throwing it at it. I groaned each time I threw a bag at the punching bag I wasn’t even looking at.

I tried using my enhanced hearing to listen in on their conversation, but I failed. Maybe I wasn’t thinking straight or it was too far for an hybrid like myself. I groaned in frustration and punched the bag with every ounce of strength in me. That definitely backfired as I didn’t see the bag bounce back and hit me in the face.

I fell to the ground with a groan and everyone looked my way. I immediately stood up, feeling so embarrassed and I looked away.

“Nathan,” I heard Jenna call out my way and I faced her direction with herself and every one around her staring at me.

“Come join us, will ya,” she said and I cursed within myself. She just put me in a tight position and she did it intentionally. Just look at that sly smile on her face.

Even if I wanted to refuse, it didn’t seem possible again since Roderigo, a pack member and a friend backed her up.

“Yes Nathan, that’s enough of training for today, come join us.” He shouted and I sighed, cursing within myself once again.

I reluctantly picked up my shirt and put it on as I walked towards them. Apparently, there were all playing a power duel game.

Roderigo winked at me and he set his right arm on the table before them and grabbed his opponents arm. The two of them groaned loudly as they tried to subdue each other, their arm muscles contracting to a scary extent and their veins bulging.

Roderigo groaned as he slowly pushed down his opponent’s arm until finally, he had his opponent’s hand slammed against the table.

“Way to go Rodge!” Jenna cheered and I darted my eyes at her. What?! She had a nickname for him already?!

“Your turn, Nathan,” Jenna’s word took me by surprise and I asked “what?”

“Come on Nathan, once she picks you, you’re it.” Roderigo said and pointed at the seat before him. I didn’t want to look like I was afraid or not up to it, so I sat down and rolled up my right sleeve.

I stretched out my hands to grab Roderigo’s when I suddenly felt a telepathic mind link come active. It was Raphael.

‘Nathan, you need to come to the healers dorm right away.’ He said with panic in his tone and I immediately stood up.

‘Okay. I’m on my way.’ I replied and cut the link.

“Excuse me.” I walked out, ignoring Roderigo’s frantic effort to call me back. I soon reached the healers dorm and I saw Raphael standing over Valerie’s sick bed. He looked worried and it soon got transferred to me the instant I saw Valerie’s skin. It was a pale blue color and she looked lifeless.

“Oh my God.” I turned around to see Jenna gasp and place her hand over her mouth.

“Raphael, what happened. You said she had about 48 hours.” I said..

“Yes, that’s what I thought, but the poison seems to be far lethal than I thought,” Raphael said, “her death might be earlier than we thought.” I felt sad on hearing that. It was more of pity for Xavier.

“I need to contact Xavier.” I said and tried to create a mind link with Xavier, but it wasn’t working.

“It’s not working, can you try?” I asked Raphael and he tried to do the same. He nodded negatively soon after and I shoved my hands into my hair.

“The only thing left to do is hope that Xavier finds the antidote on time.”
