Chapter 13

  Xavier

Everywhere was quiet, but for the sound of my car moving on the empty tarred road. Occasionally, I kept glancing around to check for sign of life, but there was none. I wanted to doubt if Clyde had intentionally mislead me, but no. He could be a jerk, but he would never betray our friendship, no matter how strained it was.

I checked my wristwatch for the time and became worried. Raphael said we had less than 48 hours and I had used a day without finding a serum already. What if she died?

I wouldn’t be able to live with my self if I lost my Mate the second time. I pulled my car to a halt as I arrived at the entrance of a forest. This was how far my car could take me. I parked carefully and climbed down, staring at the forest cautiously. Clyde mentioned a group of people lived here, but he didn’t know the details of who they were. It was only rumors.

I walked into the forest and instantly, let my wolf take control. The silence was shattered by the cracking of bones and the loud howl sound I made as I jumped into the forest, running at full speed. At this speed, my sharp and powerful eyes were still observant and took note of every detail.

A few minutes later, I began to hear strange howls and I looked by my side to see that I wasn’t the only wolf running now. There were two wolves running at my side and they didn’t look any familiar. The wolves suddenly changed their path and charged at me. I was way bigger than they were, but they seemed confident that they could take on me.

Just when I thought they wanted to strike me, they jumped on me and growled in a low tone. That was a sign of submission. I pushed them off and the three of us transformed into our human form.

“Who are you and why did you come after me?” I asked the two naked men standing before me.

“We are members of the Rebel Rogues and we came to welcome you as soon as we sensed your presence,” One of them said and I widened my eyes. Rogues! Why were they being this warm and why were we not fighting?

“It’s a privilege having the Alpha King in our midst, so our leader wants to speak to you,” The second man continued.

“You Rogues seclude yourself from peaceful coexistence and fight the peace of packs and humanity, why do you think I would trust you?” I asked.

“We’re not asking you to, we just want to know why you’re here and have a word with you,” he persisted and I sighed before gesturing him to lead the way. We continued walking deeper into the forest until we arrived at a cleared area dotted with houses and sheds. People moved around peacefully and that moment, I felt the familiar scent of Vampires drift into my nostrils.

Rogues and Vampires, they were living together?! That was unusual.

I was lead into a house separated from the rest and I looked at the Werewolves and Vampires all standing by the corner. I couldn’t help but fear this was an ambush. It could be.

“Alpha Xavier, it’s a pleasure to meet you, when I sensed your presence in our forest. I’m Rudolph by the way.” Their leader was a man with white hairs and a strong build. He was smiling as though we were close friends and not different sets of Werewolves always at each others necks.

“You look distressed, what happened?” He asked and I forced a bleak smile. I didn’t know I was showing my worry.

“I’m searching for an antidote to a rare poison. I need it to save someone’s life,” I came out clean. He could have the solution I needed.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” Rudolph pressed his lips into a tight line, “Alpha Xavier, there’s something you need to know.” It sounded important since he suddenly looked very serious.

“Sit down.” He pointed at an empty seat and I sat down cautiously.

“There’s something you need to know,” Rudolph said in a voice that made me curious, “I’m sure you’re surprised at the coexistence of we Rogues and Vampires despite the never ending enmity between both races.” He continued and I nodded.

“Most of us here are fugitives and victims of Nexus Services activities,” Clyde continued.

“Fugitives, yes. Victims, no. Do you plan any idea of how many Innocent people died because of your actions of terrorism?!” I asked.

“That’s what the Nexus Services made you believe!” Rudolph yelled, hitting his palm on his chair’s arm in anger.

“I’m sorry,” he exhaled and the anger vanished quickly.

“Look, I know you trust the Nexus Services, but you need to know that all the accusations against those Vampires are false,” Rudolph sighed, “ at least most of them.” He sighed again.

  “I’m listening,” I said.

“Why do you think you were picked as the Alpha King even though you were a new Alpha and there were old Alphas and packs,” Clyde asked.

  “Thanks,” I nodded.

“No, I’m not questioning you’re uh

Competency, but after doing a good investigation on all Alphas and finding out what you had faced in the hands of Vampire, you became the best candidate to help them due to your intense hatred.”

  “Continue.”

They set us up with those crimes so that you have to capture us on their behalf, then they take us their facility,” Clyde paused, “We don’t have the details, but we know for a sure that the Nexus Services are experimenting on captives. They plan to do something big and it will affect all supernatural races.”

“It’s just a warning.” Clyde stood up and I also stood up to continue my search for the antidote.

As I walked out, Clyde’s voice stopped me, “Alpha Xavier,” I turned around and he collected a vial from a Vampire.

“Take this and save your mate. It’s an antidote for all poisons.”
