My stomach resumed it’s rumbling and I decided to pluck some fruits to eat. I was too weak to run with my vampire speed and my wings were gone so I had to walk to the fruit trees I could spot. They were so far away and my super sight was the only reason I could see them.
I reached them finally and I summoned the little energy in me to climb up the trees and pick the fruits: berries and apples. They were still fresh thanks to the season.
The Wolves roaming about where a scary distance away, so I packed the fruits and walked back to the rock to eat them. I sat down and began to chew the fruits aggressively. I was so hungry.
I had barely eaten a few berries when I heard a loud howl behind me. I turned around and watched in horror as a large wolf approached me.
The wolf howled again and the fruits I was holding fell to the floor. It was only one wolf and I could have fought it off if I wasn’t weak. My fangs extended and I snarled at it. It growled back at me and then suddenly began to dash towards me..
I’m dead.
The wolf jumped at me, but I raised one of my hand to cover my face and used my other hand to strike it with my claws. I felt my claws tear through the Wolf’s flesh, but its own claws also grazed my skin and tore it.
The wolf howled and moved backward before charging back at me. I wanted to move out of it’s way with vampire speed, but I was too weak to even do that.
I finally had to protect my with my hands again as the wolf hit me, causing me to the fall to the floor. It’s claws had torn through the flesh in my arm and I was loosing blood quickly. It snarled and tried to attack me with its fangs, but I kicked it with the strength in me. The wolf went flying and landed on the floor, with its form almost in human form.
Before it could completely revert to it’s human form, it howled and changed to it’s wolf.
It charged at me again and aimed for my throat with its neck, but I raised my left hand to my neck and used my other hand to slash it’s throat.
It shrieked it pain, but my hand was also badly injured as it’s fangs tore through my hand.
The weakness I was feeling was the one thing preventing from shrieking in pain.
I didn’t think I could continue anymore longer as I began to go dizzy. I watched the wolf get back up again, but I also heard another howl coming from another direction.
The wolf was almost twice the size of the one attacking me, An Alpha.
The new wolf leaped into the air and pounced on the one before me, pushing it to the floor and finally getting it to calm down.
That was the last thing I saw before I slowly fell into the darkness and lost consciousness.
I gasped and suddenly stood up straight on the bed where I was lying. I looked by Left side and saw Xavier staring at me with a smile.
What happened?
Last thing I remember was coughing blood and blacking out. A hand squeezed my right palm and I looked at my right to see JENNA?!
“Jenna?!” I said In a low voice. I felt so weak, even to talk loud enough.
How did she get here? How did she find me?
“Yes, Valerie. I’m here,” Jenna said with a smile, “I was so worried about you.”
I smiled back at her and I looked up as a man I didn’t recognize came forward and passed me a small bottle filled with blood. I collected it from him and quickly opened the bottle, gulping down the entire content.
The taste was something I couldn’t miss, it was Xavier’s. blood. Color returned to my skin and I felt my strength. I finally dropped the bottle and everyone was staring at me, I felt so embarrassed.
“How long was I unconscious?” I asked, trying to change the weird situation I was in.
“2 days,” Jenna replied and I nodded, “we’ll talk later, but I think you need to rest for now.” Jenna smiled assuring and I moved my legs away from the bed, placing it on the floor.
“I’ll take you to my room,” Xavier moved towards me and before I could react, he had already carried me up in his arms.
It felt so good to be in his arms and I hated it or wanted to hate it, but I didn’t want to embarrass myself here by struggling with him to put me down.
I stayed put helplessly as he carried me out and Jenna waved at me as he carried me out of the dorm.
I expected him to drop me off in my room, but he stopped before his room door and opened the door.
“Why am I being taken to your room?” I asked and faced him. He had a light smile on his face as if watching me amused me and I quickly looked away in embarrassment.
“I asked why I am here?” I asked again as he dropped me on the bed, avoiding eye contact with him.
“I need to be close by so I can protect you,” he said and went to open the curtains, “We don’t know who else might want to kill you in your sleep.”
Wait.
Kill me in my sleep?
What the hell happened when I was unconscious?
“Okay.” I said and folded myself on the bed, looking away from him.
He remained in the position he was in for a while before finally leaving the room and closing the door.
As soon as he left, I stood up from the bed and went towards the window to look out. I looked away from the window and glanced at the door. I could hear Xavier’s voice from behind the door with my vampire hearing.
I moved towards the door and honed my hearing to eavesdrop on his conversation, but I couldn’t hear much as he appeared to have walked away. The only thing I heard was him saying, “I need all of them to know I would be ruthless with them if any of them tries to hurt her again.”
I moved away from the door and walked towards his reading table. I was curious again. What happened when I was unconscious or better still who was it that tried to hurt me.
I pulled the chair at the reading table backward and sat down. I picked up the book I had been reading earlier, Blood Flu: The Apocalypse, but as I did, another book fell on the floor.
I bent down to pick up the book and was about to place it back on the table when I saw a picture sticking out of a page.
I opened the book and took out the picture to look at it.
It was a picture of a young lady and Xavier and the both of them looked so happy in the picture.
Who is she?
I turned the picture around and saw a name written on it.
“LENA.”
