Chapter 18

Jaden picked up Stark’s sandals, lying recklessly at the foot of the king sized bed, and set it carefully in a corner of the room.

He went on to arrange Stark’s weapons on the wall, and from the corner of his eyes, he spotted the edge of a white envelope peeping below a pillow on the roughly laid bed.

  “What’s that?” Vincent asked.

Curiosity took the better of Jaden, and he walked forward to pick the envelope. He didn’t bother to open the seal, but tore the envelope and brought out the neatly folded letter. His eyes began to slowly widen in surprise while reading the content of the letter; Stark had written a letter of resignation.

“Why would I try to contest for the councillor position?” Minerva asked, feeling tensed.

Kairo stood up, and walked aimlessly through the room, with his back turned at Minerva; who was currently filled with curiosity and minimal anger. He swiftly turned, using the tip of his shoe to slide on the floor; paved with smooth marble.

“In 1543, General Leo of the Black Cedar Coven was elected Council, and he managed to get his hands on the Devlin Family Scroll.” Kairo tapped his feet at a continuous rhythm on the floor.

“How does that correlate with me becoming councillor?” Minerva asked, even more curious, and as usual was twirling her long blonde hair with her index finger.

“Of course you know that the Devlin’s Family Scroll contains deep secrets to great power. Only the councillor has access to where it is kept. Luckily; perhaps foolishly, the council members are ignorant of this fact.” Shocked, Minerva stood up from the golden brown couch she sat on, and the shock quickly morphed into a mischievous smile; her dazzling blue eyes glowing. She faced Kairo and bit her lips.

“What would I do without you? What?”

  “LENA.”

I closed the book in my hand as that name rang in my head. I stopped reading the first one when I couldn’t concentrate and moved to this one, but that name kept disturbing me.

  Who was she?

I stood up from the chair where I sat and decided to take a bath before going out. I haven’t bathed in like two days.

I took of my clothes and walked into the bathroom. In a few minutes, I came out with a towel wrapped around my body and I dried my hair.

I walked to my closet and picked out a ble dress, putting it on and walking out of the room.

I was on my way to meet Nathan and I prepared myself hear me tell me how I was being stubborn and reckless by wandering about again.

As I reached Nathan room, I was about to knock on his door, but I stopped and faced the room opposite his room.

I could pick up Jenna’s scent it was probably her room. I decided to see her first before going to Nathan to satisfy my curiosity.

I knocked on the door to Jenna’s room and waited. A few seconds later, Jenna opened the door and smiled as she saw me. She opened the door wider to let me in and walked into her room.

“I thought you were supposed to be resting now?” Jenna asked with displease in her voice.

“I thought you were supposed to be looking for a new guy after dumping Nico?” I replied with another question and we both looked at each other before bursting into laughter.

“So tell me, how did you find me?” I asked and sat on her bed.

“I used Nico’s connection,” Jenna replied and sat beside me.

  Nico?

  What the hell?

“No, I didn’t go to Nico for help. I would never!” She said, knowing what I was thinking and her face had a disgusted expression.

“The ass was to ashamed to let his friends know I dumped him so I used Nico’s friend, Jack to get the information I need.” She said and I nodded.

I couldn’t help but imagine what Nico would do if Jenna went to him. Who In the world goes on a vacation with your boyfriend to another country and then leaves while he’s sleeping.

“Did he call you after you left him in Miami?” I asked.

“Yes. A lot of times, but I ignored all his calls. I told you he got boring all of a sudden,” Jenna said and rolled her eyes, “so, enough about me.” She winked at me and I knew she was about to pull my leg or tease me about something.

“A little birdie told me you’re mates with Xavier,” Jenna said with a teasing smile and I smiled in embarrassment.

“Yes, he’s my mate,” I replied and she giggle in excitement.

“Tell me, how does it feel, how does the mate bond feel?” Jenna asked like an excited kid.

“I don’t know, I don’t want to think about it now so I can be angry at him,” I said and frowned at the thought of what he did.

Jenna’s forehead folded into a frown too and she stared at me curiously?

“What happened?” She asked. I remained quiet for a while, not wanting to talk about it, bit Jenna’s was staring daggers, no drillers at me like she was going to drill the answer out of my head.

“When I first got here, he was protective, then all of a sudden he got angry and rejected me,” I said and Jenna gasped.

The look of surprise slowly morphed into a frown and then into a disgusted expression.

“Men.” She said, scrunching up her nose and batting her eyelashes.

“They’re all the same. I can’t believe that he could do so. He’s such an Ass,” Jenna said, frowning.

“He apologized already though,” I said.

“Still, he did that and he’s a jerk.” She retorted. Her frown disappeared and she suddenly looked Curious.

“Yes, Valerie, do you know if Nathan has a mate?” She asked and I thought about it. Since I’ve come here, I haven’t seen him with any lady, so I didn’t think so.

  “No,” I replied.

“What about a girlfriend?” I asked.

“No,” I replied immediately and then stopped moving, “Why are you asking?” I stared at Jenna curiously and then it hit me.

I burst into laughter and faced her, “Jenna Rosa Lakewood, do you like Nathan?”
