Chapter 25

  Xavier.

As I reached Nathan’ room, I walked in and shut the door from behind. I quickly took of my clothes and threw them on the bed before going into the bathroom.

In three minutes, I came out already bathed and drying my body with an extra towel I found in his closet.

I put the towel and the clothes I took off in the laundry basket before going to his closet to find a cloth to wear.

I finally picked a black tuxedo and dropped it on the bed. I combed my hair and put the tuxedo on and a matching shoe I found in his shoe rack.

I walked out of the room and went out of the building, getting into my car and driving off. It took about thirty minutes of driving from the pack mansion to get out of the forest into modern streets and an extra ten minutes before one could begin to spot residential houses.

After discovering us, the government gave Werewolves places to house their pack since we lived in groups.

Most vampires preferred to stay on their own, but they had their own covens. These days, the covens had reduced since they started discovering that living in covens was a way for government to easily hit on a lot of vampires at once.

I suddenly got curious about how they had taken Valerie in the first place. That time, they had said they were going to hit on a group of vampires who attacked homes in Los Angeles, but Valerie didn’t look like someone who would do that.

She didn’t even look like she could properly use half of the numerous skills Vampires had.

I pulled the gear and increased the car’s speed as I drove on a smooth tarred road.

My phone rang and I looked at it on the chair next to me. It was Senator Griffin.

I drove away from a car and quickly picked the call, putting it on speaker.

“Xavier, where are you?” Griffin’s voice rang out from the phone. He sounded pissed.

“It’s not exactly a short drive from the pack,” I retorted.

“Just get here quickly,” he said and cut the call.

The nerves of that man. Under normal circumstances, he should be scared of me. He shouldn’t even be able to talk when facing me.

I pulled the gear again and took up the speed.

In ten minutes, I pulled up before the Parliament Houseand stepped out of the car. I looked around a the large number of people gathered and protesting. A few seconds of being here and I could already figure out that they were protesting against the treatment of Vampires. I handed my keys to a valet and climbed up the stairs that led to the main entrance of the building.

The guards at the door gave a slight nod and echoed, “Morning, sir.”

I nodded as walked into the building as they opened the door. I was met by someone else who walked towards me with a wde smile.

“Morning, Mr. Blade, this way,” he said, pointing at a door and I followed him into the meeting hall.

Everyone faced me as soon as I stepped in and I walked confidently towards an empty seat.

“Why am I here?” I asked and intertwined my fingers, placing my hand on the table before me.

“Because you were appointed Alpha King, why else do you think you’re here?” Jared, Head of security said in a rude tone and General Rudolf chuckled.

I shot them a glare and rolled my eyes, “I’m sorry. I forgot how uncertain an appointment like yours are?” I smiled and then faced Senator Griffin.

“So, why am I here?” I asked again.

“It’s still about the human protests,” Griffin replied and I nodded. Humans could be areal nuisance when they decide to protest.

“I thought Humans were supposed to be scared of something else, what happened?” I asked, lifting an eyebrow.

“It appears some of them are ready to welcome them into the society,” Mardon, a senator replied.

“I say we leave them to have their guts ripped out,” I said and cleared my throats.

“That’s not an option,” Senator Griffin said with a hunger for revenge in his eyes.

“If we let them blend into the society, they’ll multiply at a mass rate before we blink,” Griffin continued, “I mean, a drink that doesn’t last long enough to kill will leave a human as a new Vampire.”

“If Humans are the ones protesting, maybe they have loved ones among the Vampires caught or they just have an affinity for danger,” I said, but they all looked at each other.

  What?

“We think it might be something else,” Jared said and I stared at him for an explanation.

“Another one of the many abilities of Vampires,” he continued and I sighed, leaning back into my chair as I got where he was going to. It couldn’t be possible.

“Compulsion.” Senetor Griffin said and I faced him.

“We think the Vampires might be compelling the humans to protest on their behalf,” Griffin explained.

“No,” I said, shaking my head, “from the number of humans I see protesting, it’s not possible for their hocus pocus to work on so many.” I added.

“And that’s whe want you to find out,” Griffin said an sighed throwing my head back. Today was definitely going to be a long day.

I sighed as the forest entrance appeared up ahead.

I slowed the car down and gently drove into the forest pathway. It was evening and the sun was already retreating into the clouds.

After leaving the Parliament House, I had to go to various packs across Washington to get Alpha’s to arrange those who would investigate the activities of Vampires at the moment.

As I drove through the forest, I reminiscenced my visit to the fugitive camp at the forest in Carlifonia. I remembered what their leader and said and remembered that I had promised to look into it.

  I always kept my promise.

Twenty five minutes later, I pulled up before the pack building and climbed out of the car, closing the car’s door and walking into the building. I headed straight for my room and opened the door.

As I entered, Valerie looked up from the book she was reading and rolled her eyes before looking back at the book she was reading.

I had totally forgotten about what happened.

I ignored her and took of the jacket I was wearing, putting it in the laundry before walking out of the room.

I stopped at the general room and looked across the room, glancing at every face.

I wanted the investigation on Nexus Services itself to begin and I needed those who were efficient enough.
