Chapter 37

  Valerie.

I shut the book once again and sighed. I moved the chair backward and stood up, pushing the chair back under the table.

As I read, my conversation with Xavier and Lena kept replaying over and over again.

I needed to see that bitch and know what the hell she wants. I walked out of the room and went towards her room to meet her.

Before I could get to room, someone called my name and I stopped.

“Valerie.” I turned around to see Jenna and she gave a disapproving nod.

I sighed and glanced at Lena’s room before abandoning the thought and going towards Jenna. I pulled her into a tight hug and remained that way for a while before breaking the hug.

“Nathan told me what happened,” Jenna said said and I nodded.

“She manipulated Xavier and he fell for it.” I lamented and opened my room door, leaving it open as I walked in. Jenna walked in and shut the door.

“She insulted me and called me names, then she suddenly started crying and playing the victim when she saw Xavier coming.” I added and threw myself on the bed.

I wanted to cry all over again as I remembered the way Xavier had looked at me. The way he had said, ‘Vampires like you.’ With so much hatred bore a hole in my heart and makes me want to tear Lena into pieces if she was right in front of me now.

Jenna sat on the bed next to me and put her hands on my shoulder.

“I know you didn’t do anything to her,” She said and I rested my head on her shoulder.

I suddenly stood up and faced Jenna.

“Since she didn’t die and she knows where this pack is, why didn’t she come back all these years?” I asked and pushed a strand of my hair blocking my face aside.

“She told Xavier already,” Jenna replied and I stared at her, waiting for an explanation. Why appear all of a sudden.

“I heard from Nathan that she said she was held captive by the Vampire Coven they fought with,” Jenna said and I scoffed, chuckling.

“She said that she was able to escape ust recently and that she came back as soon as she recovered,” Jenna continued and I placed my hand on the bed, staring into the air dumbfoundedly.

“You didn’t eat,” Jenna said and I looked at her to see her facing the tray that was on the table by the bed..

“I wasn’t hungry,” I said and ignored the food.

“Okay, no. You’re not letting her win by making yourself miserable,” Jenna nodded in disapproval and stood up, going to the tabale and grabbing the tray.

She brought it to me and I reluctantly collected it from her.

“Eat, okay?” Jenna said and smiled I nodded.

“Okay. I’ll stop by later,” she said and she walked out of the room.

As soon as she stepped out, I dropped the tray on the bed and went to lock the door.

I walked back to the bed and grabbed the bottle of blood on the tray. I opened it and drank it halfway before closing it and returning it to the tray.

I got into my sandals and dropped the tray on the table beside my bed before walking out of the room.

I still need to see Lena.

Why was she feeding everyone these miserable lies.

I mean, how could she be held prisoner in a Vampire coven for so many years?

What reason do they have to hold her captive?

If she got into their hands, they would killed her instantly and without hesitation. And if they held her captive truly, how could she escape so many Vampires who would smell her intention before she could even decide on it.

I reached her room and saw that the door was wide open. I looked in and saw her arranging clothes into her closet. She stopped what she was doing and looked in my direction as she sensed my presence.

“You.” She said and looked back into her closet, before locking it.

I swallowed and walked into the room.

“I heard what happened to you all these years, I’m sorry about it,” I said and she faced me, looking stunned for a second.

“Hmn. I guess you should be since your people were the ones who out me through all of it,” She said and I had to stop myself from scoffing.

“I know they were Vampires, but it wasn’t the Coven I’m from. Which coven was this?” I asked and she faced me, a bit surprised and she looked like she was unsure of what to say..

“What are you doing?” She suddenly asked and crossed her arms over her chest, glaring at me..

“What do you mean?” I asked.

“Oh, come on, don’t play dumb with me,” she retorted.

“You come here acting all sympathetic and now you want you’re playing detective.” She said and slowly walked towards me.

“I just want to know what coven held you captive and how you were able to escape so many Vampires,” I said and crossed my arms over her shoulder, glaring back at her.

“I staked my way out and that is exactly what I’m going to do to you if you continue messing with me,” Lena threatened, but I expected it to be only a threat until she suddenly zoomed towards the chair and broke apart the wooden leg.

I all happened so quickly and the next thing I know, she zoomed at me with the sharp wooden leg.

I acted quickly and before she could touch me and I yanked the wood out of her hand and pushed her with all my strength.

She fell to the ground on her butt heavily and she let out a loud groan.

“Valerie!” Someone yelled angrily behind me and I looked around to see Xavier. He glanced at the sharp wood in my hand and back at Lena on the floor.

  No. No. No. I didn’t.
