Chapter 41

  Xavier.

“Thank you.” I nodded at the family as I stepped out of the door. The door closed behind me and I rested my palms with a sigh, searching everywhere bas far as my eyesight could go.

We were now going from house to house asking if anyone had seen Valerie, but so far there has been no luck.

I looked up as Jenna and Nathan stopped out of the opposite house and I looked at them inquiringly. They nodded negatively and I sighed out loud again.

I climbed down from the stairs that led to the front door of this house and began to go to the next house. I suddenly stopped walking as my eyes caught a glint on the floor.

I slowly bent down and reached for the source of the glint. It was a small piece of metal reflecting the sunlight and I instantly recognized it.

It was the star shaped metal at the end of Valerie’s necklace. I held it up and Jenna slowly came closer, looking at it in recognition.

I bent down again and studied the tracks on the floor carefully. I stood up straight and slowly followed the faint tracks on the floor.

We all continued for a while until I finally looked up as I heared Valerie screaming from afar off. My heart began to beat fast and my eyes narrowed, trying to see what was happening.

I began to run with my eyes turning a bright golden Color.

As I got closer, I saw Valerie fending off against three men attacking her. There was someone else too.

  Lena.

I ran towards them and stood before Valerie, growling loudly. The men immediately moved backwards, but Lena who was beside me, lunged forward with a long wooden stake in hand and she was about to stake Valerie when Nathan suddenly grabbed her and threw her to the ground with wolf strength.

  Lena!

I watched as Lena shapeshifted into a man and I gasped. It was not Lena all this while.

The man stood up and tried to run away as I was still very shocked, but Nathan zoomed forward and kicked him, making the man fall to the ground on his butt.

  “Lycan.” Nathan growled.

Lycan’s were half Werewolves and although, there were some normal things they couldn’t do, they all had different special powers..

“Who sent you?” Nathan asked snarling and giving the Lycan a threatening glare.

“That is none of your business.” The Lycan retorted and glared defiantly at Nathan.

He turned around to face me and smirked wickedly.

“I had one mission and it was to kill her!” He said spitefully.

“Your emotions are on edge and your mind was so easy to control,” he continued and I began to remember everything I did.

I faced Valerie regretfully and our eyes met for a while before she looked away.

“And your men, their hatred for Vampires made them easily to manipulate,” he continued, facing the three men.

Everything that they did was this Lycan controlling their minds. The ability wasn’t really Hocus Pocus, it was only possible when you find an emotional weakness.

Before I knew it, the Lycan stood up at super speed and lunged at Valerie again to complete what he had started, but before he could get to her, Nathan zoomed in front of him and dug his heart in the Lycan’s chest, pulling it out.

I walked back to my room as soon as the meeting with Alpha’s from other packs was over and I left Nathan in charge of seeing them off.

As I got to my room, I stopped and glanced at Valerie’s room. I swallowed as I hesitantly knocked on the door.

The door soon opened and Valerie opened the door. She regarded my presence, before walking back into the room, leaving the door open.

I walked in and closed the door as she went to sit on her bed, toying with her fingers. There was an awkward silence and I didn’t know what to say.

I did and said things I should never have, but it was because I was being controlled.

Still, it was my fault. The Lycan could only successfully manipulate me, because I was still holding on to the grief of Lena’s death, making my mind an easy target.

“So you were never able to retrieve Lena’s body?” Valerie broke the silence with a question, finally looking up to face me.

“Yes.” I nodded and slowly walked forward, sitting next to her on the bed.

“I’m sorry, I let him make me do all those things,” I apologized and she glanced at me shortly before looking back at her fingers.

“None of us knew that it wasn’t really Lena,” Valerie said..

“Yes, but I treated you wrongly and I feel so mad at myself.” I said, meaning every word that I said. Remembering everything I did, have me heartaches and I couldn’t help but wonder how Valerie herself would have felt all those while.

“It’s okay.” Valerie said and faced me before leaning her forehead on mine.

“I promise I’ll never behave that way again,” I muttered and held her cheek, before pulling her into a hug.

I walked out of Valerie’s room and walked to my room when I spotted Nathan at the door, talking with someone. He gave the person a nod and closed the door. He turned around and as he saw me, he increased his pace.

“Who was that?” I asked, nodding in the direction of the door.

“He came to deliver a message from Nexus Services,” Nathan said and held up a white envelope.

I looked at it inquiringly and collected it from Nathan, wondering what it was that and why they couldn’t convey the message on phone.

I tore the seal of the envelope and brought out the letter folded into it. I hurriedly unfolded the letter and scanned through the message, each word feeling like a hit in the chest.

I looked up dumbfoundedly and Nathan looked curious about what was written in the letter. I stretched out the letter to him and be collected it, reading the letter too.

“What?” He exclaimed in surprise and I quickly gestured to him to quiet down as we were standing directly in front of Valerie’s room.

It was a letter from Nexus Facility and they wanted me to return a prisoner I released. Valerie.
