Chapter 45

  Valerie.

I looked at the corridor on my left and before I knew it, a uniformed man was rushing towards me.

My eyes darted to his hand and I saw the bottle spray of holy water and the silver club in his hand. My instincts kicked in immediately and before he could reach me, I zoomed out of the way.

He lost balance for a while and regained it, facing me again.

Human. I muttered inside me. What was a human doing here and what deal does this one have with me.

I looked at his uniform again and saw the badge. I muttered a curse beneath my breath as I realised who it was.

What the heck was Nexus Service agent doing here and why is he attacking me?

I felt my fangs extend and the Man swung the club at me, but I bent down at super speed. The club passed over me and I quickly grabbed it, pulling it and in turn, pulling the man towards me. I punched him in the jaw with my left hand holding onto the club and he groaned as he staggered backward, his hands loosing grip on the club.

I threw the club far away as the man staggered backward to regain his footing. My eye darted to his left hand as I saw it clutch tightly around the bottle spray, but I zoomed forward quickly and just as he held up the bottle to spray me with the holy water, I smacked his hand with my wide open palm.

The direction of his hand changed and the holy water sprayed into the empty air. I then quickly gave his hand another hit and the bottle flung out of his grip.

I suddenly shrieked in pain as a familiar biting pain burned in my back. I heard the spray sound again and I shrieked in pain. Is slowly turned around to see another Nexus Soldier and just as I did, he hit me by the side with a silver club.

I groaned as I felt my internal organs burst and heal up again. He hit me again and I felt the bursting and healing.

The entrance door opened and I looked at Jenna walk in.

She suddenly rushed forward and as the man tried to hit me with the silver club again, she kicked him in the soft spot causing him to grunt in pain and let go of the club.

The other man behind me rushed towards the Spray on the floor and was about to spray me again, but Jenna quickly got in the way..

The holy water didn’t affect humans so she was okay and she threw a punch at the man.

The man grabbed her fist before it could touch his face and he threw a punch at her, but she bent her head to the side and grabbed his fist too with her other hand.

The two of them struggled for a while till Jenna bent under their intertwined arms and turned around, forcefully twisting the man around. The man groaned as Jenna held him to herself and pressed her arm against his throat.

She grunted as she grabbed his head and twisted it, snapping his neck.

I felt my injureies slowly heal up and at the same time, the second Nexus Soldier began to recover from the kick as he staggered forward.

Before he could do anything, I channelled on my strength into my fists and thew a punch in his face, knocking him off unconscious.

I sighed and Jenna did too. I faced her and finally asked what I wanted to ?

“Jenna, what’s happening?” I asked glaring inquiringly at her.

“I don’t know, but Xavier told me they were at war with Rogues,” Jenna said and I squinted my eyes.

  Rogues? Yeah, he obviously lied.

“I wanted to check it out that’s why I left, but there was no available car and the border is far away so I came back,” she continued and I nodded.

“It’s Nexus Services. Something is happening and Xavier doesn’t want me to know,” I said sighing and facing down. I looked up as I saw the door open and Xavier walked in, Nathan following behind.

He looked surprised to see the two Nexus Services agents lying unconsciously on the floor. He also looked injured and his leather armour was stained with blood.

  “What happened here?” He asked.

“No Xavier. What’s happening?” I asked.

  Griffin.

  Violet Laboratories.

I watched as the car pull up before the laboratory and my driver removed the car keys. I opened the door and climbed down before walking towards the entrance of the building.

I just received the news that Xavier resisted the soldiers I sent and most of them returned badly injured. I was angry, but at the same time, I felt stupid. How could I think ordinary men would defeat supernaturals.

We were so close to breakthrough and I wouldn’t let anyone stand in my way. I wouldn’t give up until I achieved my goal and avenge my family.

The scanner at the door scanned me before turning green and the door clicked open.

I walked in with my long jacket dancing to my movement and I looked up as Dr. Kealan walked towards me.

“Ah! Senetor Griffin.” Kealan looked surprised to see me. He was the head scientists and was in charge of the supernatural research team.

“I didn’t know you’ll be coming today,” he said and gestured with his hands in the direction of his office.

He opened the door to his office and I walked, sitting on a chair in the office.

“It was an emergency,” I replied.

“We actually faced resistance when we tried to get the girl you said would perfect the research,” I explained.

  “Miss. Hudgens yes.”

“Well, the soldiers I sent got defeated and we don’t have her,” I said bitterly.

“Without her, the subjects can’t be perfected and won’t be very useful,” Kealan retorted and I nodded.

“That’s why, I’ll need you to give me the best readily available subjects you have,” I said and Kealan looked dumbfounded for a while.

“I just said they weren’t perfected. They are still highly unstable and dangerous,” Kealan said with a disapproving expression.

“They’re the best shot we have at defeating Xavier and his wolves,” I tried convincing Kealan, although at the end, he’d have to do what I want.

“See them as the sacrifice we have to make to get the perfect formular. We’ll be able to make as many more as we want.”
