Valerie.
I walked back to the reading table so I could continue reading the book when someone knocked on the door again.
Maybe they were here with my food already, I thought and walked towards the door, opening it.
It was Jenna instead.
“Jenna,” I said and walked out of the room, closing the door behind.
“Valerie, someone wants to talk to you,” Jenna said holding up her phone. I wasn’t able to bring mine here, but who could it be?
“Who?” I asked.
“Jordan.” Jenna’s answer got me stunned for a bit and I remained transfixed in the spot I was.
“Jordan?” I asked as I finally regained composure. It had been long since I’ve talked to my brother, but that was mainly because he avoided me himself.
He wasn’t happy with me because I left our fathers coven to start a normal human life.
Although, father also had to make him leavewhen it became dangerous for Vampires to live in groups.
“Yes, he says he wants to talk to you?” Jenna replied and stretched out her phone to me.
My lips quivered as I searched for words, but I finally stretched out my hands, reluctantly taking the phone from Jenna.
I put Jordan back on the line and there was silence for a while before I heard his voice.
“Valerie-“ Jordan finally talked.
“Hello Jordan,” I replied, and opened the door to my room next to Xander’s.
“Valerie, you need to come to the coven quickly,” Jordan said and I definitely didn’t expect him to say something like that.
“Co……co…Come Home?” I asked, stammering, “Jordan, what are you saying?”
“Yes, you need to come home,” Jordan said, confirming what I had heard before.
“Mom came back from Maldoria and she’s badly injured,” Jordan said and I froze where I was. What happened to her? My mom was a witch and when magic became toxic to witches, they left to another realm, including my mother.
Why was she back now and how did she get injured.
“Jordan? Jordan, what are you talking about?” I asked, worried.
“She is badly injured and she wants to see you. Valerie you have to come here now,” Jordan said, sounding alarmed.
“Okay, I’ll see what I can do about that.” I said and cut the call..
I returned the phone back to Jenna and she looked at me inquiringly.
“My mom came back terribly injured and she wants to see me,” I explained to Jenna.
“You have to go now,” Jenna said and pulled me into my room.
“But Xander-“
“I’ll tell him what happened, you have go see your mom,” Jenna said and walked towards my closet, opening it and picking up a bag. She put a few clothes in it and a few other things before zipping it up.
“Take, you have to leave now,” Jenna said and handed me the bag. I clutched my arms around the handle and nodded before getting into a shoe and walking out of the room.
We walked towards the door and Jenna opened the door.
“Wait here, I need to get you car keys from Nathan,” Jenna said and quickly ran towards Nathan room. She knocked on the door and the door soon opened. She entered and I waited for about a mini before the door opened again and Jenna stepped out with Nathan.
They walked towards me and Nathan held his keys towards me.
“I’ll explain to Xander when he wakes,” Nathan said and I nodded, taking the key from him.
“Come back safe.” He said and I walked out, climbing down the stairs.
I drove slowly into the forest and as I reached the border, two guards walked up to me and I came to a slow halt.
I whirled down the window and looked out. I had been gone for long, but sure Vampires lived long and had good memories.
They still remembered me.
“Miss. Valerie, we’re glad to see you,” One of them said with a smile and I returned the smile, regarding them with a nod.
“Thank you.” I whirled the windows back down and drove into the Coven.
I kept glancing around as I drove observing the environment. It was more improved and it has gone through so many changes Since I soon reached my dad’s house and as I pulled over by the door, the front door of the building opened.
Of course, they must have sensed me coming already metres away. I retrieved the keys from the car engine and opened the door by my side, climbing down.
I put the keys in the pocket of my jacket and looked up to see my father looking at me with a smile.
I returned the smile and walked towards him when the door opened again and someone else stepped out. It was Jordan.
The smile on my face disappeared immediately as I saw the indifferent look he gave me.
It’s not my fault I wanted to live a normal life and moreover, it was already getting too dangerous as Vampires in the Coven kept disappearing.
“Valerie, I’m so happy to see you,” my father, Darius said with a smile and I nodded.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t come to see you earlier,” I apologized. Truly, I got carried away with my life, my job, and my friends that I hardly came to see him.
“Where’s mom?” I asked and he nodded before gesturing towards the door.
“Jordan.” I gave Jordan one last glance and nodded before walking into the building. Immediately I stepped in, I could sense my mom’s presence and I followed it, walking directly to her room.
I slowly opened the door and stepped in. I looked at my mom lying down on the bed with her eyes closed and she didn’t look good.
Her face was extremely pale and magical green energy occasionally sparked around her hair. I didn’t know much about witches or magic, but she seemed like she had some serious magical illness.
I slowly walked towards her and as I got to her, I gently touched her hand.
I watch her eyelids a shake and she slowly opened her eyes. She looked at me but the pain she was feeling drained all the happiness in her eyes as her lips quivered.
“Valerie,” she muttered softly and I glanced at the door as Darius and Jordan walked in.
“Mom.” I said and sniffed. I felt so heartbroken to see my mom in this condition.
“Valerie, I’m so happy to see you,” she continued in a weak voice I nodded, covering my mouth as I tried to control myself from crying.
“Me too.”.
“Valerie,……” She started and she looked like she was in even more pain. She looked like she was struggling to talk.
“Valerie….you…have..to find him-“ she said and I became confused. Find who? What was she talking about.
“Ma….ma. Magnus… You have…. To find him,” her voice came out in what sounded almost as a whisper.
Who was Magnus? What he the one that did this to her?
“Who is he?” I asked her.
“Valerie…..you have to find him and …. You are a…..” She looked like she was struggling to talk, “you are a…..a..”
Suddenly she froze and her hair stopped glowing. I saw the life leave her eyes and I cried, “No. No……no…”
I cried as I saw her eyes slowly close and I held her arm, shaking it, “Mom. No..no”
“Oh. Miranda.” I heard my father cry as he walked towards me and he placed his hand on my shoulder. He was trying to console me, but he was also crying himself.
He loved my mom a lot. Although witches weren’t enemies with any of the races, they pride themselves and see themselves as better than the others.
I looked at my mom again and sniffed. I need to know what happened to her.
