Chapter 53

  Valerie.

“No…no…noo…” Jenna sobbed as I broke the news to her. She was already healing and it was very rapid.

I looked at the drip being passed into her and it looked like it contained Vampire blood. That explained why her bones were healed and her injuries closed. She only needed to rest.

“Jenna, don’t work yourself up,” I tried to make her calm down, “now, we know his alive and we’re going to find a way to get him away from Nexus Services,” I assured.

“What if they make him suffer in those laboratories?” Jenna asked, looking unconvinced.

It was possible though. I couldn’t image what those being used for experiments must be going through everyday.

Whatever they were doing, they were definitely trying to build something stronger than supernaturnals. Those men that attacked us at the Moon Edge Pack had twice the strength and agility of Vampires or Werewolves.

The only thing was that they didn’t seem perfected yet.

“Nathan is a strong man, we’ll find him,” I reassured, holding her hand and sighing.

“You need to get some rest now,” I said and stood up from the chair next to her sick bed.

“I’ll check up on you later.” I nodded with an assuring smile before walking out of the room.

I greeted the nurses and attendants on my way out with a smile and nod before stepping out of the building. I looked up as I saw Xander approaching and he was carrying a huge back pack.

  Where was he going?

“Xander….” I said, stopping before him, “are you going somewhere?” I asked and he gave an affirmative nod.

What? Where was he going at this time.

“Valerie, I’m going back to the main land,” Xander said, “I’m going to meet the rebels I met earlier so we can work together to find anything we can on Nexus Services,” he explained.

  “But-“

“Valerie, I have to go. We can’t remain in hiding forever and we have to stop Nexus Services before they can carry out whatever plan they have,” Xander said, placing his hands on my shoulder and giving me a reassuring smile.

“Fine, be safe okay,” I said and he nodded before leaning towards me and planting a kiss on my lips.

I kissed him back shortly and we broke the kiss. I smiled and accompanied him to the car parked before the pack mansion.

“I’ll come back safely, I promise,” he assured again before getting into the car and I closed the door. I crossed my arms over my shoulder and watched as the car drove off, gradually disappearing away from my vision radii.

I turned around and saw Lycian standing at the door. Our eyes met and I smiled bleakly before looking away.

I was scared for Xander and what might happen to him. What if Nexus Services got their hands on him.

There was no strong assurance of safety now that they had those enhanced men.

What if Xander falls into their hands?

“He won’t,” I looked up as Lycian talked.

What the heck? I didn’t say anything out loud, did I?

“I’m sorry,” Lycian apologized. Wait, can he…..?

“I usually don’t pry on people’s thought, I was just curious about what you were thinking,” Lycian said, confirming what I was thinking.

“You can read minds?” I asked.

“Yes,” Lycian replied and moved away from the door step so I could go in.

“I’m a half Werewolf, a Lycan,” Lycian explained and I faced him.

Yes, Nathan told me his mother was a Vampire, so he must be a Lycan too. The one that pretended to be Lena was also a Lycan and he had shapeshifting abilities.

“If Lycans are half Werewolves, why do they have special abilities that Full Werewolves do not?” I asked, confused on how it worked.

Being an half Werewolf meant they wouldn’t have complete wolf genes so how could they be stronger.

“Every Lycan has a special ability, some he just one and some have multiple,” Lycan replied, “but don’t think that we are at an advantage to full bloods,” he continued and I got curious.

  “How?”

“Though we have special abilities, there are always a vital part of a Werewolf that we are born without,” he explained and paused, facing me, “it could be their strength, the wolf voice supposed to be in their heads, their healing or speed, or their wolf form,” he added and I was surprised as I was hearing about this for the first time.

I always thought Lycans were way lucky than Werewolves as they had added abilities. Vampires are usually feared because we have so many abilities and you never know what ability one will manifest while confronting us.

I was curious though, “what are you missing?” I asked and Lycian faced me, silent for a while.

“My wolf form,” Lycian replied and continued walking, “I don’t have a wolf form to transform to when I want to fight.”

Oh My God. That was the major part of being a Werewolf in the first place. I wondered how he would even be able to defend himself if he ever got attacked.

“But I’m good at Martial arts though,” Lycian said with a wide smile. That was the first time I would ever see him smile and he looked so good.

“I can easily defend myself by fighting since I still have my strength.” He added with a smile and I returned a bleak smile.

I remembered the day, that Lycan tried to attack me. He was easily defeated and he even looked helpless.

He could manipulate emotions and shapeshift, but he didn’t have his Werewolf strength. The scratch he got when he fell down also didn’t heal as it should have.

“Can you shapeshift?” I asked, getting Lycian to face me again.

  He nodded in affirmation, “Yes.”

“Hmn. So you can change your form to look like anyone you want to look like?” I asked just out of curiosity.

“Yes and no,” Lycian replied, “it doesn’t just work that way, for anyone to shapeshift, you need to have seen the person recently or have a proper memory of how the person looks. Only powerful witches can successfully pull it off without this,” Lycian explained and I looked surprised.

If that Lycan had shapeshifted into Lena, could it be that be knows her? I don’t think so because neither Xander nor Nathan knew him.

What if he had seen Lena as Lycian said after all, they were never able to find Lena’s body.

  Could she be alive?
