Chapter 60

  Xavier.

I tapped the side of the car with my hand at a consistent rhythm. We had been on the road for four hours now and we were already in Washington. Elijah was sitting next to me, driving the car while Dave and one other guy, a Vampire were sitting at the back.

There was another car following us behind and there were four men there, two Werewolves and two Vampires.

We left California this morning and we were going to the facility the rebels said contained the evidences we need and the special prisoners.

According to Dave, we were close to the facility already. I was already getting anxious and hasty.

I wanted to do this quickly so I could get back to Valerie. She was alone at the pack and my mind was not at rest.

Lycian called me that Jenna also left and she supposedly wanted to go in search of Nathan. I was worried that she was going to hurt herself.

I told myself that I would find Nathan as soon as I could find the evidences we needed, but now she had gone ahead and would only out herself in trouble.

Whatever fighting skills she learnt at the pack won’t be enough if she ever encountered Nexus Soldiers or worst still, those enhanced men.

What if I even found Nathan at the facility we are going to and we rescue him. What will happen if he is already rescued and then something bad had already happened to her.

I became angry immediately. She should never have acted so impulsively.

I heard my phone ring and I reached into my pocket to pick it. It was an unknown number, but this a new phone and I barely had any saved contacts.

I picked the call and dropped the phone on my leg.

“Xavier,” I heard Valerie’s voice echo out of the phone and I picked the phone.

“Valerie, I’m glad you called,” I said happy that I could hear her voice and that she was safe, “Is everything okay over there?” I asked and she replied, “Hmn hmn.”

“Apart from the toxic boredom, everything is okay.”

“So what are you doing now?” She asked.

“I and the re….men I told you about are on our way to a facility we believe has evidences we can use to bring Nexus Services down,” I said, stopping myself from using the word, ‘Rebel’

“Just make sure you’re safe,” Valerie replied.

  “Okay.”

“Xavier, Jenna left this morning,” Valerie said with worry clearly audible in her voice.

“Lycian informed me. Valerie , are you okay?” I asked again, bothered that she might worry too much because of Jenna.

“I don’t know. She said she wants to go in search of Nathan and she’s angry with me,” Valerie said and I could feel the worry she felt even though we weren’t together.

I didn’t want her to have all this tugging at her mind!

  “Angry?”

“Yes, she said I’m the cause of all this and you know what’s bothering me?!” Valerie paused, “it’s because I think she right. She has every right to be angry with me because Nathan’ life is in danger because of me!” She lamented

  She didn’t sound any happy.

“Valerie, no, don’t think that way. This fight isn’t only about you,” I said persuasively and Elijah glanced at me before directing his attention back at the steering.

I looked at him briefly before looking back at the road.

“Valerie, we’re also doing this so we can stop whatever plan Nexus Services has so don’t you put all that blame and guilt on yourself,” I continued, “Okay?”

“Okay.” Valerie said with an assuring tone.

“We’re here,” I heard Elijah say and I looked up to see a heavily fortified building metres ahead.

“Valerie, I have to go now,” I said, “take care, okay?” I didn’t take my eyes off the building up ahead and Elijah slowly brought the car to a halt even though the building was still a bit far away.

We could only see it clearly because of our supernatural sights.

“Okay. I’ll call you later,” Valerie said and hung up. I put the phone in my pocket as the car’s engine died down.

I opened the door and stepped out of the car. We couldn’t drive too close to it so we wouldn’t be detected.

We needed to be as stealthy as possible so we could have a smooth operation.

The doors opened and the rest stepped out, slamming the door shut.

Behind us, the second vehicle also came to a halt and the passengers stepped out, looking at the building up ahead.

“How do we get close without being spotted?” I asked.

“They must have some detection device right and there are guards standing on those towers.”

“Well, we can silently take out the guards with poisonous darts,” Dave said and I faced him, nodding.

“And according to the men who went to soy, there are no detection devices,” Elijah added. Dave opened the bag he was carrying and brought out some darts wrapped in leather and handed it to a Vampire.

The Vampire nodded and collected the darts from him. He suddenly zoomed forward at super speed and even my sight could barely keep up with what was happening.

Within ten seconds, he zoomed back and the guards on the Watch tower fell one after the other to the floor without making a sound.

I regarded the Vampire with a nod. Vampires were really faster than Werewolves. We began to walk towards the building and as we reached the gate, Dave leaped into the air and jumped to the other side of the gate.

A few seconds later, the gate opened and we all walked in.

Immediately, Alarms began to blare and I looked around in surprise. What? How did they detect us.

“We need to retreat.” I said as numerous guards came out in tens. I attempted to run back to the car at Werewolf speed, but I found myself running normally.

I stopped and looked at the others too. Even the Vampires looked like the same had happened.

Dave faced me looking terrified, “Our powers. They’re gone.”
