Chapter 82

  Xavier.

I rested my head on the chair, closing my eyes. I rolled down the window already to let breeze into the car.

I and Nathan had switched in the middle of the road and he was driving now.

I opened as my buzzed and I looked around for while, rubbing my eyes before picking my phone on my lap.

I looked at the screen and saw that I looked at the notification of a video sent to me. I unlocked the phone and clicked on the video.

Reporter: Just recently, documents of illegal activities of the secret government organisation called Nexus Services has been spread on the internet and this has caused controversal discussions all over the internet.

“Look at this,” I said and moved the phone closer to Nathan so he could also watch the video as he drove.

Reporter: People have begun to go into the streets and began protests for the government to shit down all operations of Nexus Services.

The government has also began to take actions and we’re live at one of Nexus Services facilities being raided federal soldiers.

I looked closely at the video and looked at the soldiers running into a facility at the background with heavy guns.

Perfect. We just succeeded in putting an end to every plan Griffin might have had.

I smiled at Nathan happily and he nodded, before looking back at the road and avoiding a car.

I dropped my phone on my lap and leaned back into the chair to continue resting when I heard the phone begin to ring.

I quickly sat up, hoping that it was Valerie who was calling me back. I picked up the phone and looked at the screen to see that it was Dave who was calling.

I accepted the call and put it on speaker before placing the phone on my lap and leaning back into the chair.

“Hello,” Dave’s voice echoed from the phone.

  “Hi Dave.”

“Did you see the video I sent you?” He asked.

“Yes, you did a good job. They’ve finally been busted,” I replied, waiting for the main reason why he called me. He couldn’t just call me to confirm that.

“There’s something else you need to know,” he added just as I had expected.

  “What?”

“When we went through the files now, we noticed that something was missing,” he said and I immediately opened my eyes sitting up.

I and Nathan shared glances before I picked up the phone.

“The laboratory we were driven to the other day. Nexus Laboratory 01. It’s missing in the files,” he said and I shove my hands into my hair.

“What? How is that possible?” I asked, raising my voice.

“They must have left it out on purpose,” Dave replied, “Griffin would definitely try to do something desperate now that he has been caught,” Dave added.

He was right. Griffin must have set something dangerous in motion now or he is planning to. He must have intentionally left out records of that particular record so he could have something to fall back upon if something like this happened.

“Okay, I’ll get back to you,” I said and cut the call.

“What do we do now?” Nathan asked and I glanced at him before looking away in confusion. This was important, but Valerie could be in danger..

I had been trying to reach her all day, but she hasn’t picked her call. If nothing ha happened to her, she would have been expecting my call or she would have even called me herself to see if I was fine.

“I don’t know if Valerie is safe and I don’t know what I’ll do if anything happens to her,” I said and Nathan nodded.

“I don’t know why she’s not picking her call, plus the feeling I’ve been getting about her being in danger, it’s hard to just ignore,” I stated and Nathan faced me and he changed the gear.

“Have you tried calling Lycian to ask if Valerie is safe?” Nathan asked. Oh my God, why haven’t I thought of that.

I shook my head and quickly picked my phone, finding Lycian’s number in my saved contacts and dialing him.

The phone rang for some time and there was no response till it rang out.

I faced Nathan who was also looking worried.

I dialed the number again and waited as it rang. Finally, he picked the call and I heard his voice echo out of the phone.

  “Hello Xavier.”

“Lycian, I tried calling Valerie all day, but she didn’t pick her call, is everything all right there?” I asked and there was silence on his end for a while.

“Yes, there’s no problem,” he replied, “Valerie is safe.” He added.

“Oh, that’s a relief to hear that.” I sighed.

  “Okay, thanks,” I said.

“Xavier, you n-“ Lycian started, but I had cjt the call before I could listen to what he had to say.

All I needed to hear was that Valerie was safe and I felt relieved that she was. Why then did I get that stupid feeling and why did she refuse to pick my call or call me back.

I shrugged assuming there was an explanation for it. My mind finally went back to what Dave had said earlier.

If my guess was right, Griffin would be at facility right now to make his last move, an heavy move. I was confused about him. Why was he so obsessed with all these.

I had noticed it even when I still saw him as the Clean Senate President who was just doing his job by directing the operations of Nexus Services in arresting supernatural creatures. He had always shown this keen obsession and readiness to hurt Vampires then and you would think he had a personal grudge against them.

Whatever the case might me, or for whatever reason he had to want to lash out on all supernaturnals, I would see that he doesn’t succeed and he needed to be stopped now.

“Turn around, we’re going back to the rebel camp,” I said and Nathan nodded before swifly, drifting around and facing the road we had just come from.
