Xavier.
We all stared at the computer screen in Dr. Kealan’s office as we monitored the movement of the Rippers towards this laboratory. I stared at the several tiny green dots that represented the Rippers as they travelled towards the spot marked red as the laboratory.
We were all waiting for the Rippers to arrive and meanwhile, Doctor Kealan was preparing the gas he would use to shut down all of them in the opposite office. Nathan and Greg were with him while I and Dave stood here to monitor the position of the Rippers.
I looked at the door as it opened and the three of them walked in.
“I thought you were going to release the gas from there?” I asked and Doctor Kealan nodded.
“That’s where I’ll release the gas into the vaults, this is where I’ll make the commands for release,” he replied and I stared at him inquiringly.
He shrugged and explained, “we did that so it wouldn’t be easy for the research works to be easily destroyed.”
I watched as he walked to his desk and I stepped aside for him to pass through. He bent down to open a large drawer in the desk.
He brought out four gas masks and stretched them out to me. What were they for? I stared at them I inquiringly.
“The gas destroys the nervous system of Rippers, we don’t know what it would do to you so we have to be cautious,” he explained and I nodded, taking the masks from him.
I gave one each to the others and I put on the one with me. I looked back at the computer screen and saw that the Rippers were already here.
I opened the door of the office and stood at the corridor. I squinted my eyes and I looked out the gate, seeing the Rippers approach, I grabbed the door knob, preparing to go back inside.
Just as the first one stepped in through the wide open gate, I entered the office and closed the door.
“They’re here,” I said and Kealan nodded. He began to type rapidly at the computer and as there was a beeping sound and a small vault on the wall of his office opened.
There was a big red button behind the vault and Kealan nodded, affirming that it was the button to release the gas.
He walked towards it and hesitated for a while before hitting the red button.
Finally.
Kealan turned around to face us and he looked a bit alarmed. What happened?
“Doctor Kealan?” I asked and suddenly looked at the door as I felt something hit it.
What was that?
The walls from all sides began to get hit by something and I faced Doctor Kealan, my hand subconsciously grabbing the silver dagger I strapped to my side.
“Doctor Kealan, what’s happening?” I asked.
“The bu…..the button,” he stuttered, pointing at the red button in the wall.
“Doctor Kealan, what happened to the button?” I asked him with a glare.
“It’s supposed to turn green once the gas escapes the vault,” he replies and I hit my palm in frustration.
“Shit!” I yelled and shoved my hands into my hair. We had called over hundred Rippers here and now, there’s no way to stop them.
“Something is probably hindering the distribution of the gas,” he added and I faced those standing behind me. They also looked scared as the Rippers kept hitting on the walls and the door.
“The walls and doors were built with a special dense material, but it won’t hold long so we have to get out of here,” Doctor Kealan stated and I could hear his heartbeat get faster and feel his breathing tense.
How?
Dr Kealan walked towards me and stopped at his desk. He grabbed his desk and faced me.
“Help me shift this,” he said and I took a look at the desk. What now?
I went to the desk and grabbed it before shifting it away easily.
Doctor Kealan immediately bent down and to my surprise, he opened up a board on the floor. There was a small trap door under the door and he grunted as he opened the door.
The trap door led to a flight of dark stairs and I looked inside in surprise.
We can use this place to get to area where the tubes room so we can take out whatever is blocking the vault.
I nodded and waited for Doctor Kealan to go in first before going after him.
There were cobwebs hanging around and I used my hands to brush them aside as I climbed down the stairs. The others followed behind and I looked up to see Dave close the trap door as he climbed down.
We finally got to the bottom of the stairs and it led to a narrow dark path.
It was extremely dark and I could only manage to see because of my Supernatural sight.
The path got illuminated as Doctor Kealan switched on the flashlight of his phone.
We continued for a while and we finally reached a wide place that had other narrow paths such as the one we just left branching into it.
I looked at the large tube passing through this place and it branched into four other smaller tubes.
There was thin circular piece of metal between the big pipe and the smaller ones. There were two metal rods passing through the sides of the circular plate to prevent it from rolling out of place.
“Oh. The button was supposed to push those rods our, it must have gotten stuck,” Doctor Kealan said and I nodded.
I walked towards the pipes and I grabbed the first rod. I grunted as I tugged at it and pulled out the first rod.
I was about to pull out the second rod when something suddenly crashed down through the top of the tunnel.
I moved away as a Ripper landed on the floor with his hands and legs.
His eyes were red and he looked at all of us one after the other.
His long metallic claws extended from his fingers and he snarled before dashing at Doctor Kealan.
Dave suddenly got in the way and he countered the Ripper’s claws with his hand.
He cried as the claws tore through his arms and he swiftly slashed his own claws back at the Ripper.
The Ripper grabbed his hand and tossed him aside before snarling at Doctor Kealan again. He suddenly slashed his claws at Doctor Kealan, but Dave quickly got up and pushed the Ripper’s hand. Still the claws were able to tear through Doctor Kealan’s abdomen because of the length.
The Ripper snarled and slashed his claws at Dave as he regained balance.
Dave was able to move out of the way before the claws could tear his face.
I looked at Nathan as he took a silver dagger out of his pocket and he dashed at the Ripper from behind, stabbing him between the spine and the Ripper fell down dead to the ground.
I looked up at the hole at the top of the tunnel and I quickly grabbed the last rod again, grunting as I pulled it out.
As soon as I pulled it out, the circular metsk plate rolled out of the way and I heard the hissing sound of gas flowing through the tubes.
Sighed in relief and threw the rod in my hand on the floor. I faced Dave as he suddenly gasped and I saw his skin color begin to change to a very pale one.
I widened my eyes in surprise as I saw the cut in his gas mask. The Ripper’s claws must have cut them the other time.
Dave began to scream and I looked at his pale skin slowly turn green, his skin drying up and wilting away.
“Dave!!”
