Chapter 97

  Valerie.

I watched as everything unfolded. I was afraid of what might happen and at the same time guilty that all these was my fault.

When I left that day to go see my mom, I should never have come back. If I didn’t, things would have turned out much differently and Xavier wouldn’t be in this mess.

I looked at Alex as he stood up from the rubbles of the wall. I was still shocked about that. Alex charged at me and I had been so scared for my baby and I pushed him.

I didn’t know where that strength came from and everyone also looked surprised when Alex broke through the wall.

“I didn’t do any of this just because of Valerie, I did this because of all of you!” Xavier yelled, standing between me and the pack members watching. He called out two of them and had them confirm what he had sent them to spy on Nexus Services.

They were all surprised to hear that Nexus Services had been experimenting on both Vampires and Werewolves and they all began to murmur as Xavier mentioned that Alex had partnered up with Nexus Services to bring the Rippers here because he had been promised to be made Alpha King of Washington.

I glanced at Alex and his lips quivered in fear, but then he suddenly pointed at Xavier.

“You. You don’t have proof of this! You’re just saying rubbish to save yourself!” Alex said and the fear disappeared from his face.

The tables turned in his favor once more as those watching nodded in approval. They were all too stupid or they didn’t want to believe that he would commit such a big treason.

“I do.” My head turned to the side as Jenna spoke and I glanced back at Alex as he scoffed and chuckled. I looked back at Jenna, hoping that whatever evidence she had would be good enough to convince everyone that Alex was the real traitor here.

“Ha! An ordinary human like you dies not deserve to talk here,” he laughed scornfully, but Jenna ignored him, not even sparing him a brief glance.

I saw her walk off in the direction of my room and my face remained on the place she has just left. She came back soon and she was holding her phone. I stared at the phone as she walked closer to everyone.

“The other day, I had been recording my audio diary before the attack,” she said, scrolling through her phone.

She found the audio she was looking for and she slipped to the part where we faced off against Alex.

“Alex, who put you up to this?” I heard Xavier’s voice echo from her phone.

“You’re only making things worse by going against Nexus Services,” Alex’s angry and determined voice echoed out next. I folded my arms over my chest and took a glance at a scared Alex.

  “And what were you promised?”

“I would be able to do what you’re too weak to do, I’ll be able to lead this pack the right way and the rest of Washington werewolves!” Alex yelled.

“Whether you like it or not…” Jenna stopped the audio and everyone looked at Alex.

“No……no…they are.. lying.” Alex babbled, fear visible in his eyes. The men watching also seemed very angry and they looked like they were ready to tear him apart in any minute.

“Give it up Alex,” Nathan said, but Alex shook his head.

“No. It’s all because of that Vampire!” He yelled and suddenly pulled out a silver dagger. He suddenly rushed at me and before I could react or even process what he was doing, he stabbed the silver dagger at my stomach

“Valerie!!!!” Xavier screamed and I froze in place, unable to move. My baby!!

I remained frozen and unable to move until I heard the clattering of metal against the floor. The pain I expected also refused to come and I slowly looked down at my stomach.

I stared in shock as I looked at the silver dagger in Alex’s hand with the blade broken into two and the tip clattered to the ground.

I gasped and looked my stomach, inspecting it to find any injury. There was only a hole in my top and no single mark on my skin.

“Wh….what?” Alex stuttered and looked at the dagger in his hand in surprise. Everyone also looked shocked including Xavier who looked frozen in place.

I faced Alex as he slowly walked backward, trying to escape.

“Don’t you dare,” I zoomed forward and grabbed him by the neck, before throwing him against the wall, this time with less force, as I didn’t want to go about breaking all their walls.

He groaned as he got slammed against the wall and he fell down on his butt. Xavier moved forward and signaled to me to step aside for the sake of our baby.

As I moved aside, he grabbed Alex by the neck and slowly raised him up, scratching Alex’s back against the wall.

“I tried creating a telepathic mindlink with Raphael when I came here, where is he?” Xavier asked with his voice dripping with anger and rage.

Alex coughed as Xavier’s hand choked his neck and he tried to pull Xavier’s hand away.

“He…. Ran away…..that day like the rest of you,” Alex said, coughing in between words.

“Don’t you dare lie to me!” Xavier bellowed furiously.

“Raphael was the only other person who saw what you did that day, so tell me what you did to him!” Xavier asked with a threatening tone and he he raised his other hand with his claws extending out of his fingers.

Alex looked at the claws fearfully before looking back at Xavier.

“Fine.” He coughed, “I locked him up in the basement of my house,” Alex confessed and I shook my head as I wondered what Raphael would have gone through for close to two months of our absence.

“You’re a traitor Alex, and you deserve to die!” Xavier said and he suddenly let go of Alex before sending his claws into Alex’s chest.

Alex groaned with his veins bulging in his forehead as Xavier’s hand remained in his chest for a while before pulling out his heart.
