Jordan.
“But I broke up with her and cut all ties when I saw her kill two humans,” I said, “it’ll be impossible to go through her again.” I tried to make him understand it was not possible.
“You’re still the closest connection we have and you can find a way around that,” he said.
“Or you can take the other punishment. What we’re doing is totally legal and field service is the other option. This is just the mission we think you’ll be most useful for,” he stated.
“Fine.” I agreed and sighed, “but I don’t even have her number again,” I said, throwing my hands in the air.
“Your phone?” Darrell asked and I reached into my pocket, taking out my phone and giving it to me.
He typed in a phone number and handed the phone back to me. It was the right number. I didn’t have it on my phone, but I still remembered. Vampires have a persistent long memory, but I thought maybe that’ll help avoid the mission.
I glanced at Lycian and then at Darell before dialing the number.
The phone rang for a while before the call was picked.
“Hello Jordan,” Nicole’s voice rang out from the phone. She still had my my number??
“Hiii.” I said and swallowed nervously. I faced Darell and he mouthed what I should say.
“Can we meet?” I asked and waited for w response. The line was silent for a while before she finally replied.
“Meet?” She sounded surprised. I would too. I literally stared at her disdainfully and walked away, saying I never wanted to see her again.
I stood up from the chair, already filled with anxiety and I walked round the office as I listened to her talk.
“You said you didn’t want to have anything to do with me again,” She said, her voice sounding icy. I could hear some sounds in the background with my Vampire hearing.
“Move those boxes over there.” I heard a man’s voice and several other muffled up instructions from different people.
“I know, but Nicole, I need your help,” I said, trying my best to sound as convincing as I could.
“What do you want?” She asked, the coldness of her tone slowly reducing.
“I’m broke Nicole. I need something that I can do. Anything, I’ll do it,” I stated quickly, sounding so desperate. She remained silent for a while again and I looked at those in the room.
They were all focusing their gazes on the phone in my hand in curiosity. The phone was put on speaker when I started the call.
“Anything?” She finally asked..
“Yes. I’ll do Anything at all. I just need a job,” I replied and she went silent on us again.
“Fine,” she replied and I smiled, dropping my elbow and mouthing a ‘Yes!’
“Oh. Thank you so much. I’m so grateful,” I thanked her in the most convincing voice hi had.
“Alright. Meet me at the old Edward Restaurant by 5,” she said and she cut the call immediately. I dropped the phone on the desk and faces Darell inquiringly.
“She fell for it. What now?” I asked and sat down on the chair again.
“You’re going to meet with her and you’ll have a team of supernaturnals that’ll go there ahead of you and blend into the surrounding,” Darell replied and I nodded. Sounded like something right out of those detective movies. They can be super smart.
“If we’re lucky, we can complete the entire mission in a day,” Darell said and I scrunched up my nose, staring at him inquisitively.
“Once she leaves, they’ll follow her to wherever she goes,” he explained, “we’ll be lucky if she goes straight to their hideout and we can raid all of them. If not, we’ll just keep watching her and know everyone she talks to, what she does, until she can finally lead us to their hideout,” He added and I nodded.
I leaned back into the chair and faces Lycian. I wish I could know what was going through his head at the moment.
Too bad he was the only one with that ability.
I never imagined that something like this would come up. I expected to close at work for the day and then go home with Lycian and relax. I didn’t know or want something so sudden to happen.
First, it would be tiring, and second, it would be time wasting if they weren’t able to quickly find the hideout. I wished everything would just happen quickly and that they catch Nicole and her group quickly so I can get out of this mess.
“Why can’t I get something off her instead and then you can use it for a locator spell,” I suggested, realizing that it would be easier that way instead of following her and risk loosing her.
Darell smiled and shook his head, “and you don’t think that we would have tried such a obvious method?” He asked.
“V-Red is now one of the most demanded narcotics and trust me when I say many people are ready to pay any amount for it,” Darell stated, “it’s a very addictive narcotic.” He added.
“Because of the high demand for it and being the only ones with the formula, do you know how many immigrants, foreigners and even locals they turn and kill so they can have enough supply of Vampire blood?” He asked.
A lot. A whole lot, I guess.
“So we’ve thought of every possible way of taking them down,” he said.
“We have tried severally to track them down magically and all the Mages workin here have worked on locator spells using any useful bit of pointer we can get, but they have all been unsuccessful,” he stated and shook his head, “they somehow seem to have disappeared under the radar.”
“They have to have a Mage, no, Mages who are helping them and cloaking their hideout,” I said and he nodded.
I always knew Nicole was an overambitious lady. Too bad I would have to see her today after 3 years of staying away from her.
“So what do we do?” I asked.
“We have one hour, thirty minutes till five so agents will get themselves blended in immediately,” Darell replied.
“And you, we’ll get you ready for the meeting,” he paused.
“You have to really look like a desperate man.”
